Laboratory Technician Metabolism

We are recruiting for our Early Development Safety Assessment team in Harrogate and are currently seeking to hire a laboratory technician to help support the Metabolism department. This is a great opportunity for someone to start a career in a laboratory, in a permanent, full time position, working a shift pattern that includes evenings and weekends.

About the Job

Our largest UK site in Harrogate is currently recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to support laboratories activities within the Metabolism department. The Metabolism team help our clients to identify which drug candidates have the greatest probability of success, assess their safety and build a solid scientific foundation for later stages of development. You will primarily perform laboratory procedures that fall outside of standard laboratory working hours to support ongoing studies under the guidance of Study Supervisors.

This is a special position with a shift pattern Monday - Wednesday and Friday 7:45am - 4:45pm and Sunday 8:30am-12:30pm.

The responsibilities of this varied role will include:
  • Maintaining a safe & clean laboratory work environment
  • Ensuring good housekeeping e.g. labelling as per regulatory requirements, accurate recording and checking of raw data, disposal of expired reagents etc.
  • Maintaining study documentation and laboratory records
  • Providing support within the laboratory to facilitate the successful conduct of studies, working with minimal supervision in conjunction with the Study Supervisor
  • Preparation of items required on individual studies such as study labels, tubes, reagents etc.
  • Performing appropriate assays/procedures based on the Study Protocol
  • Assistance with Sample Shipments
  • Performing sample maintenance, archival & disposal
  • Mentoring & training junior laboratory technicians
  • Supporting and participating in Corporate and Department initiatives regarding quality system implementation, maintenance, and continuous quality improvement activities

About You

To be successful in this position, you will need to have;
  • An enthusiastic and committed attitude
  • GCSE (or equivalent) including English, Maths and Science
  • Good English language/reading/ writing & time management skills essential
  • Computing skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets (e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • A working knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety policies
  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels with other Covance employees, as well as external clients, suppliers, etc.

This is a junior entry level role for candidates who are interested in starting a career in science. The position is suited to candidates that are looking to move into the scientific industry after completing A levels or to actively change the industry they are working in; not scientific graduates.
