Job Details

Oxford BioMedica is a pioneer of gene and cell therapy and our work is helping to deliver life changing treatments.

Gene and cell therapy is the treatment of disease by the delivery of therapeutic DNA into a patient’s cells, providing long term and potentially curative treatments for a wide range of diseases. With the potential to transform medicine, the sector holds significant promise with the first commercial products now launched and others rapidly approaching the market.

Our recent successes are driving significant growth. As such, we are looking to recruit a Bioinformatician to drive the development of proteomics work streams, within Oxford BioMedica’s Research Department. The department is involved in the design, development, and production of lentiviral vectors for external and internal programs. The position will support the proteomics team who will be responsible for the development of research-level technologies and aid in the transition to Process R&D and QC analytics groups. The position will work closely with the research groups working on understanding cell and viral/vector biology.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to take the lead in:

  • Bioinformatics support for proteomics pipelines
  • Analysis of cellular pathways using quantitation methods (both  label and label free techniques)
  • Omics data analysis and integration incorporating proteomics, metabolomics and transcriptomics

Key Tasks

  • Development and implementation of pipelines for protein quantitation and identification
  • Support the development of targeted quantitative assays to further research programmes and transition into QC
  • Development of novel proteomics approaches to address key research questions
  • Integration of omics data from metabolomics, transcriptomics and proteomics
  • Assist in the transfer of methods into QC analytics

Required Skills/Knowledge/Qualifications

  • Post-doctoral or Industry experience and PhD in a relevant Science subject
  • Expertise in analysis of MS-MS datasets using Spectronaut, Maxquant, Skyline or equivalent software
  • Knowledge of tools used for gene ontology and pathways analysis
  • Knowledge of clustering methods for analysis of differential expression
  • Expertise in setup/deployment and administration of linux-based systems, including cloud-based systems
  • Awareness of the importance of data backup
  • Integration of ‘omics’ datasets
  • Construction of bioinformatics pipelines for reproducible data analysis
  • Advise/assist wet lab scientists in appropriate statistically powered experimental design and data analysis
  • Data visualisation and experience in presentation of data to a non-bioinformatician audience

Desirable

  • Expertise in R, Python, Bash & Perl.
  • Knowledge of Illumina and Nanopore sequencing  technologies and associated data analysis techniques, including use of appropriate programs for QC, alignment and  differential expression analysis. Filtering and alignment of specific reads based on bam tags
  • Metabolomics analysis
  • Experience of de novo assembly methods and analysis of WGS and targeted sequencing approaches
  • Familiarity with tools used for CRISPR assay design and analysis of pooled CRISPR screens
  • Experience with communicating and interaction with third party clients/collaborators/partners
  • knowledge of virology/vectorology of viral vectors for gene therapy
  • An understanding of GMP / GCP requirements
  • Good aptitude for creative thinking and problem solving
  • Direct line management experience and the ability to drive multiple activities

Company

Oxford Biomedica is a quality and innovation-led viral vector CDMO that enables its clients to deliver life-changing therapies to patients around the world. One of the original pioneers in cell and gene therapy, Oxford Biomedica has more than 25 years of experience in viral vectors, the driving force behind the majority of gene therapies.

Cell and gene therapy is the treatment of disease by the delivery of therapeutic genetic material (DNA or RNA), into a patient’s cells. One highly effective approach to delivering genetic information is to re-engineer existing viruses to be safe delivery vehicles (vectors) to insert the genetic material into patients’ cells. This can be achieved either by directly administering the vector to the patient (often referred to as in vivo gene therapy), or by first introducing the genetic material to cells or tissue outside of the body, before administering the cells or tissue into the patient (often referred to as ex vivo gene therapy or gene-modified cell therapy).

Oxford Biomedica collaborates with some of the world's most innovative pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, providing viral vector development and manufacturing expertise in lentivirus, adeno-associated virus (AAV) and adenoviral vectors. Oxford Biomedica's world-class capabilities span from early-stage development to commercialisation. These capabilities are supported by robust quality-assurance systems, analytical methods and depth of regulatory expertise.

Oxford Biomedica, a FTSE4Good constituent, is headquartered in Oxford, UK. It has locations across Oxfordshire, UK and near Boston, MA, US. Learn more at www.oxb.comwww.oxbsolutions.com, and follow us on LinkedInTwitter and YouTube
