Job Purpose:

This ASC 606 Finance Business Partner (FBP) is expected to establish him/herself as a key partner to the project team, along with the Project Finance Lead and Project Leader (PL), in steering a set of projects to their targeted financial goals (e.g. revenue, profitability, cash flow), specifically for the management of Pass Thru and Investigator Fee Costs / Revenue. As such, the FBP acquires an understanding of the project economics and drivers of this significant project expense. Under supervision, he/she assists in translating key drivers into operational actions, and proactively advising the Project team on how to influence critical operational levers in order to positively impact project financials. The Finance Business Partner/Projects is the "go-to" person for broader Finance understanding or insight into pass thru and investigator fees for defined projects. He / She interacts directly with project leaders, helps set clinical / investigator fee plans, supports project decision making, and guides future project decisions on the basis of their impact on project financial performance. The main success factors of this role includes an accounting and attention to detail orientation, strong grasp of project operations and their implications for financial performance, and strong technical, analytical and consulting skills. ASC 606 Finance Business Partners are expected to build business relationships across appropriate areas of the organization, drive tactical decisions, and become a trusted advisor for pass thru and investigator fees. The Finance Business Partner demonstrates understanding of how pass thru and Investigator costs should be recognized under the ASC 606 guidance for business and/or service lines across PAREXEL.

Key Accountabilities


  • Create accurate, transparent, and timely financial analysis to support the Project Leader and Finance Business Partner in the project decision making process for Pass Thru & Investigator; clearly articulate financial implications of business decisions / choices on the pass thru & investigator costs, and provide retrospective analysis as well as drive forward looking actions on simpler projects / contract types.
  • Provide updates on financial status for assigned projects and create information in response to any client financial reporting needs for assigned projects in the area of project reporting, forecasting, or transactional details for the projects within the portfolio.
  • Ensure master data is available in clinical systems and tools used to forecast visits.
  • Review pass thru costs allocation.
  • Use systems and tools to generate the visit forecasts.
  • For projects not using a PAREXEL CTMS (Clinical trial management system) complete a manual visit forecast.
  • Review contracts and work with the operational teams to prepare a forecast for all non-visit related activities.
  • Load the total forecast data into the Oracle Project Financials (OPF).
  • Meet with Project Leaders and Project FBP to discuss forecast assumptions and make edits as required as part of the project approval process.
  • Review the month-end accruals and investigate exceptions.
  • Analyze actual v forecast data quarterly and explain large variances to the PL/FBP teams.
  • Address Investigator Fee (IF) and Pass Thru (PT) Inquiries.
  • Become the central point for all IF and PT related questions from the Finance team including client driven deliverables and questions


Qualifications

Skills:

  • Strong experience with Excel and PowerPoint applications; experience with financial performance systems (e.g., Hyperion).
  • Ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with enthusiasm and prioritize workload with attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Strong command of the English language, both written and verbal.

Education and Experience:
  • BA in Finance or Accounting, or relevant experience (part qualified accountant preferred).
