Job Details
I am running a search for a client of mine who are a global CRO specialising in preclinical and clinical drug metabolism to find a “hunter” type new business developer. They are looking for a Director/Senior Director of Business Development who is based on the west coast. The position is full homebased and will report directly to the VP Business Development. The primary responsibilities of such an individual will be to grow sales for the company’s drug metabolism division.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research and identify new clients in biotechnology/biopharmaceuticals developing therapeutics, qualify/validate prospects and establish new contacts within these companies relevant to our portfolio
- Establish and maintain client relationships, strengthen existing relationships to maximize cross-selling business opportunities
- Work closely with internal and external scientific teams and other business development colleagues to develop effective partnerships and client-driven strategies
- Manage (together with internal scientific support) new business opportunities from point of inquiry to closing the sale
- Meet quarterly and annual sales targets
- Maintain CRM database with specific up-to-date information on sales leads, prospects and opportunities to facilitate accurate forecasting and reporting
- Issue monthly reports on-time (end calendar month)
- Attend meetings, conferences as required
- Assist VP with special projects as required
REQUIREMENTS
- Self-starter with hunter/finder bias and strong interpersonal communication skills
- Can succeed in matrixed teams with colleagues through consensus building
- Can demonstrate the ability to identify business growth opportunities
- Liaises effectively with internal and external clients, consultative, is a ‘team-player’
- Experienced with delivering timely and accurate sales results
- Good organizational, verbal and written skills - the ability to listen
- Experience of negotiating and reviewing client contracts
- Computer savvy (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, CRMs e.g. SalesForce, Sugar)
- Capacity to travel in region of 35-50% of the time (requirements will vary based on candidate location)
- Sound knowledge of the CRO industry in preclinical and clinical drug metabolism (knowledge of environmental fate would be helpful but is secondary)
- Candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Biology, Biochemistry or a related life-science, MBA advantageous
- Professional experience includes a minimum 4-5 years life science industry experience, preferably in the CRO space (e.g. study director, project manager, business development)
