Our site, Helderberg Clinical Research Centre located in Sommerset West, Western Cape  is currently looking to recruit a Clinical Awareness Specialist (CAS) to complement the existing clinical team.
Clinical Awareness Specialist (CAS) supports the delivery of site objectives, growth and randomisation targets in compliance with regulatory requirements and Patient Service Standards by contributing to the recruitment, engagement and retention of patients at the site. The CAS is responsible for accessing patients suitable for clinical studies at the DRS through all forms of community outreach activities, including GP networks, community-wide events and cultivation of relationships, as well as increasing community awareness about the benefits of research.

Key roles and responsibilities for a CAS are:
  • Actively involved in activities to maximize patient recruitment to the site e.g. outreach activities, local campaigns, clinical trial days and do health checks, draw Contribution blood and other do vital sign checks as part of their daily function
  • Complete patients questionnaires (GMQ) with patients and send to or update the information on the database at the site to verify if patient can be booked the proper visits
  • Actively support the recruiting actions and activities and analyse their effectiveness, use initiative to select new venues for outreaches
  • Review and verify medical history of patients to select those who are potentially eligible
  • Go on targeted outreaches to find potentially eligible patients
  • Verify completed patients questionnaires / lab results and book patients for visits
  • Keep aware of recruitment deadlines and targets
  • Work with Patient Service Team to identify patients from the database to contact
  • Telephone contacts with patients to up-date the collected data and keep the contact
  • Select potentially eligible patients and book them for PIV visits
  • Increase site delivery by contributing to overall randomization targets and working towards quarterly patient recruitment goals
  • Build strong Network of non-medical partners (e.g. patient advocacy groups, pharmacies, sports groups, schools, retirement homes) to strengthen awareness and PR of Synexus and clinical trials
  • Cultivate and maintain respectable relationships within the community that will enhance our community’s outlook about Synexus and clinical trials as well as to promote the brand
  • Locate, schedule and attend various, community-wide events that will allow for face to face study promotion in order to obtain new opt-in database leads
  • Maintain knowledge of all currently enrolling studies, timelines for those studies, protocol requirements, lab values, etc. in order to speak fluently about the study and target appropriate patient populations
  • Increase the size of the database annually while striving to reach targeted randomization. Actively contributes to initiatives, strategies and activities allowing maximum patient recruitment to the site
  • Work with site staff to determine prioritization of studies in need in order to develop a strategic plan to find patients and the timelines required for those patients
  • Demonstrate resilience and positivity when company priorities shift, including the execution of emergency outreach efforts based on enrolment needs
  • Liaise with, and actively involved in meetings with Site to discuss studies, recruitment needs and to clarify and share recruitment strategies, initiatives, processes and tools
  • Must maintain and deliver timely reports that reflect efforts of all outreach activities, including successes and failures and events calendar and future planned activities for execution
  • Use of own vehicle is required and submission of mileage for reimbursement as per the company travel expense policy


Qualifications and Experience:
To be considered for this exciting opportunity you will require the following:
  • A Nursing / Nurse Midwifery Qualification and /or registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) to practice and 2 years of relevant work experience in clinical research and/ or marketing, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of local city environment
  • Knowledge of clinical trial process and clinical operations, including proven knowledge of ICH/GCP guidelines and local regulations
  • Proficiency in using MS Office programs and web applications
  • Demonstrated time management skills and ability to adhere to project productivity metrics and time lines.
  • Must be able to handle sensitive or demanding issues; firmly adhering to the principles of the regulations and guidelines.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational and planning skills
