We are seeking a Senior Counsel to join our Corporate team within PPD’s legal department. The corporate team is based in Europe, the U.S., and APAC, and handle issues globally.
This position will be based in Cambridge, UK at our site in Granta Park, Great Abington on a full-time permanent basis.

Key responsibilities:
  • Advises on employment law issues for the UK and Europe. Handles prosecution and defence of pending and threatened claims and demands and other employee-related claims, including non-competition issues, commercial disputes, collection matters, subpoenas and document holds.
  • Advises on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and other similar corporate transactions
  • Administers the global Corporate Compliance Program, internal investigations and other day-to-day matters related to that Program.
  • Provides legal advice with respect to Corporate real estate matters in the EMEA region.
  • Serves as the primary contact for select functional groups outside the department.
  • Manages EMEA subsidiary maintenance and other corporate secretarial functions.
  • Prepares and negotiates a wide variety of corporate and commercial agreements.
  • Manages day-to-day inquiries received in the Corporate Legal Department’s general corporate legal mailbox.
  • Handles legal matters related to liens, garnishments, bankruptcy notices and general requests for information.
  • Responsible for policy and SOP review, development and enforcement.
  • Provides training to other functional groups within PPD on contract requirements and other legal matters.


Education and Experience:

  • Qualified lawyer
  • Approximately 8-10 years PQE and prior contracts related experience in a legal context or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Significant international experience in:
  • UK and European employment law
  • Experience supporting an in-house HR team
  • Corporate law
  • Mergers and Acquisitions
Other desired qualifications/experience:
  • Anti-bribery/anti-corruption law experience (e.g., U.K. Foreign Bribery Act, U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, etc.)
  • Contracting experience (particularly with respect to vendor contracts)
  • Real estate/real property and lease experience
  • Clinical research, and/or pharma/biotech/life science industry experience
  • Line management experience
  • Commercial insurance policy management and/or claims experience

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the company
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to remain flexible and adaptable in a wide range of scenarios

  • Must be able to identify risk and evaluate fact patterns to advise on the application of the law and provide direction to other departments
