Purpose of Role
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is responsible for establishing a respected and valued presence with researchers, opinion leaders, and strategic distributor partners within the therapeutic area and/or pipeline. They will engage in fair and balanced scientific exchange, responding to requests for information about pipeline products and diseases of interest from key stakeholders. By thoroughly understanding national and regional experts, the MSL will gain insights into treatment patterns and trends, sharing this information internally to help shape strategy Reporting to Medical Affairs, the Medical Science Liaison will be instrumental in educating healthcare professionals (HCPs), primarily in India, while also supporting additional countries as global needs arise. This role focuses on assisting HCPs with patients involved in clinical trials, those receiving therapy, and facilitating global patient access through expanded access programs. This individual is expected to have expertise in Neurology/Pediatrics and to be a scientific expert on this company´s products, serving as a valuable resource for scientific information for key customers.
Key Accountabilities:
Opinion Leader Engagement
- Identify, develop and maintain collaborative relationships with current and future Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and healthcare stakeholders in disease states of strategic importance to the company
- Provide medical and scientific information to respond to KOLs’ technical questions about the molecule/drug
- Identify and engage key TLs, HCPs, and investigators in scientific exchange on disease landscape & client assets
- Represent client at select scientific congresses and professional society meetings through engagement with identified stakeholders, scientific insight gathering and timely scientific coverage
- Provide clinical presentations and information in response to unsolicited questions (as appropriate) in academic, site visits, and healthcare provider setting in both group and one on one settings
Scientific Expertise
- Deeply understand the unique treatment paradigm, key stakeholders, and healthcare landscape in your territory
- Develop and execute territory plans and HCP/KOL mapping in alignment with medical strategy
Clinical Trial Support
- Gather insights from PIs and KOLs, report insights to company to help develop clinical development plans and pipeline advancement
- Act as primary liaison to investigators interested in developing and performing investigator sponsored trials
- Ensure and support timely global access for patients completing clinical trials (post-trial access)
Cross Functional Support
- Assist as needed in local, national, and international tactical activities (coverage of presentations at select scientific congresses, knowledge of contracting local consultants, etc.)
- Assist in the reconnaissance of market landscape determination and competitive intelligence including therapeutic trends and unmet needs within the appropriate disease states and marketplace and provide timely feedback/information on emerging clinical/scientific information to internal stakeholders
- Respond to external inquiries and deliver appropriate clinical and scientific information
- Develop and deliver scientific trainings
Compliance
- Operate in a highly ethical manner and comply with all laws, regulations and policies.
- Complete mandatory training in assigned timelines upon hire as well as when new policies, SOP’s, guidance are issued
- Adhere to internal standard processes and comply with regulatory and compliance requirements
Primary Responsibilities:
- Implementation of overall Global Medical Affairs strategy within identified territory
- Leadership role in medical education for healthcare professionals through proactive communication of scientific data as well as scientific exchange of information during routine interactions and product training.
- Provide scientific training, support distributor training, understand processes and assist in the coordination of homecare initiation
- Expert in compliance guidelines
- High quality presentations of scientific data to health care professionals in various settings to enhance product / disease state knowledge
- Must maintain knowledge of applicable research and literature
- May respond to unsolicited requests for information about unapproved products or uses, or off-label information and be able to triage medical Information requests
- Consistent record of building collaborative relationships with peers and teams, helping cross-functional teams address strategic opportunities and solve problems across a matrixed organization Individual contributor role
- Timely completion of administrative tasks and expense reports.
Qualifications:
- MD, PhD, PharmD, or NP/PA preferred with clinical practice and extensive strategic experience
- Extensive experiences in Medical Affairs (5+ years) with Excellent knowledge of Medical Affairs processes and methods
- Familiarity with and track record of complying with industry and regulatory compliance guidelines
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, in collaborative team environment and in complex matric organizations
- Existing Neurology / Pediatric experience and relationships is a plus
- Experience and expertise in clinical trial design, interpretation of scientific data, market research, competitive intelligence tools, drug information systems, and medical marketing strategies
- High integrity, sense of urgency, ability to recognize time sensitivity
- Experience in launching rare disease product(s) or complex specialty products is ideal.
- Must be a self-starter with a strong drive, creativity, knowledge, and rapport building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to operate with ambiguity, exceptional listening skills, strong presentation skills with an ability to rapidly adjust the sophistication of the presentation to the audience, good negotiating and influencing skills
- Fluent in English and fluency in the language of a local country is required
- Ability to travel up to 60%, including international travel.
