OBJECTIVES/ PURPOSE

The Rheumatology Team Lead (Director) working in the GI2 Drug Discovery Unit will :

• lead research programs in collaboration with internal and external partners focused on the developm en t of novel drug candidates for the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases
  
• be a strong scientific thinker with significant experience leading discovery and development of therapies for inflammatory and/or fibrotic diseases
  
• have extensive experience developing and/or evaluating novel small molecule , biologic or nucleic acid therapeutics
  
• support , evaluate and/or identif y business development opportunities to enhance project and/or pipeline progression
  
• be a highly collaborative and energetic scientist with superior communication skills, who can balance multiple , collaborative projects and act as senior scientific consultant to and leader of early -stage matrix project teams
  

A CCOUNTABILITIES

• Develops and oversees novel scientific projects and manage s the work of others d ir ectly as well as in a matrixed structure
  
• Leads efforts to determine mechanism of action for drug targets and candidates using state-of-the-art methods and tools
  
• Oversees the execution of drug candidate discovery and development programs , using contemporary methods and tools in collaboration with internal and external partners
  
• Proactively identify complex obstacles to progress; recommend and implement solutions using a diverse set of resources; regularly add value to research projects through creative ideas
  
• Manage a wide variety of tasks, techniques, and projects; integrate these responsibilities to produce quality result with a high level of efficiency
  
• Act as a scientific mentor
  
• Communicate effectively with colleagues and leadership
  

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS :

• PhD degree in a scientific discipline with 10+ years experience , or
  MS with 16+ years experience, or BS with 18+ years experience in the discovery and development of novel therapies for inflammatory diseases
  
• Extensive experience leading project teams in drug discovery from project initiation through to candidate identification and selection in a biopharma setting
  
• Deep understanding of complex biological systems
  
• Superior oral and written communication skills with proven ability to effectively interact with technical, scientific staff and research management

U.S. Base Salary Range:
$169,400.00 - $266,200.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained , certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
