In this UK regional, leadership role you will direct and supervise study director staff, responsible for the technical and scientific conduct of Mammalian Toxicology studies. You will be responsible for the day to day operation and performance of the scientific staff within the Toxicology Study Direction group and may maintain study director responsibilities for toxicology studies.

The position can be based at our sites in either Eye, Harrogate or Huntingdon and travel up to 20-30% across the sites may be required.

Duties Include:
  • Assisting with workload assignments, performance evaluations, salary administration, staffing decisions, organizational structure, and other supervisory activities for the department
  • Supervising the training of study directors and contributing to the training of other staff members
  • Overseeing the scientific aspects of standard operating procedures, protocols and reports to ensure full compliance with regulations
  • Assigning resources (e.g., personnel and space) as needed to meet budget and workload expectations
  • Reviewing and making recommendations on research proposals for scientific feasibility and cost benefit perspectives
  • Being responsible for the formulation, development and implementation of plans, policies and procedures within department guidelines to improve the work quality, efficiency and/or productivity of these groups
  • Facilitating the implementation of new technology and automation to reduce errors and/or improve productivity and quality
  • Participating in the planning and managing of business development and marketing activities for department or client group
  • Initiating, planning and implementing staff development programs. Developing department capabilities and resources to meet both present and future needs
  • Monitoring progress toward meeting departmental goals and objectives, and taking required corrective action. Working with cross-site management to maintain harmonized processes, goals and objectives for Nonclinical Safety Assessment
  • Providing technical or scientific expertise and guidance in study design, animal welfare regulations, and training
  • Being responsible for the corrective actions and issues resolution process for issues involving Toxicology Study Direction

Education / Qualifications:
  • BSc in Toxicology with MSc in Toxicology preferred. Experience may be substituted for education


Skills / Experience:
  • Significant demonstrable experience either as a manager or people-leader in a CRO environment with Toxicology knowledge and/or experience.
  • GLP knowledge and experience
  • Excellent communicator
  • Change management skills
  • Process-driver
