Chief Medical Officer - Clinical Development

NonStop Consulting is seeking an experienced Chief Medical Officer specialising in Clinical Development to join the team of our client.

About our client:

It is a fast-developing pharmaceutical company with a specific pipeline of new promising products in the field of Consumer Health.

Position Overview:

The Chief Medical Officer will lead our client's Medical Affairs and Clinical Development strategies at a global level. This is a full-time permanent role allowing you to work from anywhere in Europe.

Some of the Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Strategy Development: Formulating and implementing clinical strategies aligned with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Medical Oversight: Providing medical guidance and oversight across various departments, ensuring adherence to medical standards and best practices.
  • Clinical Research and Development: Directing and overseeing clinical research activities, including clinical trials, to advance medical innovation and product development.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and guidelines in all medical activities and product development processes.
  • Medical Affairs Leadership: Leading the Medical Affairs team, providing mentorship, and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
  • Medical Governance: Establishing and maintaining medical governance frameworks to manage risks and ensure ethical conduct in medical activities.
  • External Stakeholder Engagement: Representing the organization to external stakeholders including healthcare professionals, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.
  • Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating medical and clinical risks associated with products, procedures, or practices.
  • Medical Advisory: Providing expert medical advice and insights to support decision-making processes across the organization.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensuring the quality and integrity of medical data, documentation, and processes through effective quality assurance measures.
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME): Overseeing CME programs for medical professionals within the organization to ensure ongoing professional development and compliance.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborating with other departments such as Marketing, and Sales to integrate medical perspectives into overall business strategies and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Medical Degree: A Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school is typically required.
  • Board Certification: Certification in a medical specialty recognized by relevant medical boards or associations is often expected. This ensures expertise in a specific area of medicine.
  • Clinical Experience: Substantial clinical experience, usually including several years of practice in a clinical setting, is essential. Direct patient care experience provides valuable insights into medical practices and patient needs.
  • Leadership Experience: Demonstrated leadership experience in a medical or healthcare setting is crucial. This may include previous roles in medical administration, management, or leadership positions within healthcare organizations.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strong strategic thinking and the ability to develop and execute clinical strategies aligned with organizational goals and industry trends are necessary for the role of CMO.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance requirements, and standards is essential to ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines and best practices.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are critical for effectively conveying complex medical concepts, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and engaging with external stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are required to address complex medical and clinical challenges, evaluate data, and make informed decisions.
  • Team Management: Experience in leading and managing interdisciplinary teams, including medical professionals and support staff, is important for overseeing medical operations effectively.
  • Ethical Integrity: High ethical standards and integrity are fundamental for maintaining trust and credibility, especially when making decisions that impact patient care, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of business principles, financial management, and market dynamics within the healthcare industry is beneficial for aligning medical strategies with organizational objectives and driving business growth.
  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to ongoing professional development, staying updated on medical advancements, emerging technologies, and industry trends is essential for a CMO to remain effective in their role.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, including diplomacy, empathy, and cultural sensitivity, are important for building positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including patients, healthcare professionals, regulators, and industry partners.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability to navigate changes in healthcare policies, regulations, and market dynamics are essential traits for a CMO to effectively lead in a dynamic and evolving industry landscape.
