We are recruiting for a Chief Operating Officer for a European Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Organisation. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced business leader to step into a senior leadership position responsible site expansion and transformation within a growing organisation.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead International Expansion by driving growth in existing and new international locations, including the establishment of new manufacturing sites, distribution centers, and strategic partnerships, while ensuring compliance with local regulations and market requirements.
  • Global Operations Management: Oversee and optimize operations across international sites, including manufacturing, supply chain, quality assurance, and distribution, to ensure consistency, efficiency, and quality standards across all locations.
  • International Supply Chain Development: Develop and implement global supply chain strategies, including sourcing, procurement, logistics, and inventory management, to support the company's international growth objectives while maintaining cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency.
  • Cross-Cultural Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to diverse international teams, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment that values cultural differences, promotes teamwork, and drives employee engagement and performance.
  • Involvement in International Business Development: Work with Business Development teams to assist in identification and appraisal of new potential strategic partnerships, joint ventures and licensing agreements in order to expand market research and revenue.
  • Talent Acquisition and Development: Lead the recruitment, selection, and development of high-performing teams across international sites, ensuring the right talent is in place to support business growth and succession planning for key leadership positions.
  • Risk Management and Mitigation: Assess and manage risks associated with international operations, such as geopolitical factors, currency fluctuations, supply chain disruptions, and legal complexities, by implementing effective risk management strategies and contingency plans.
  • International Stakeholder Management: Cultivate strong relationships with international stakeholders including government agencies, regulatory bodies, suppliers, distributors, and key opinion leaders, to enhance the company's reputation, facilitate market access, and drive collaborative partnerships.
  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Contribute to the development and execution of the company's international growth strategy, aligning operational objectives with business goals, conducting market analysis, and identifying opportunities for competitive advantage in global markets.
  • Innovation and Technology Adoption: Foster a culture of innovation and technological advancement across international sites, driving the adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies, digital solutions, and automation to enhance operational efficiency, quality, and productivity.
  • Reporting and Performance Analysis: Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics, and reporting mechanisms to evaluate the effectiveness of international operations, identify areas for improvement, and provide actionable insights to senior leadership.

 

Requirements

  • Experience in a leading operations position responsible for tackling the challenges involved in scaling and/or transforming a pharmaceutical manufacturing or CDMO business
  • Extensive experience working within the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology or Medical Device industries
  • Strong experience in line management as well as being responsible for a large number of staff (in a site leadership/ regional leadership capacity)
  • Prior experience making recruitment decisions in order to increase the headcount of the business
