Job Summary

At our world class facility in Elphinstone, Tranent,our Toxicology Sciences Department currently has exciting career opportunities forAssistant Technicians.

Department Information

The Toxicology S ciences Department within Charles River is engaged in regulatory toxicology, encompassing: general, inhalation, reproductive toxicology, and safety pharmacology. The Assistant Technician role sits within our safety pharmacology team which is made up of technicians and study directors working together to deliver world class data and report quality to our Sponsors. There is a formal progression scheme for the role and excellent training and mentoring is provided to support the growth and development of staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the measurement of cardiovascular (heart waveform and blood pressure) and respiratory (breathing rate and volume) parameters in multiple species using a variety of specialist hardware and software, in support of safety pharmacology and toxicology studies.
  • Involved in quality control checking and equipment calibration and maintenance.


Applicants should have:
  • HND or relevant higher qualification.
  • An interest in learning about the cardiovascular and respiratory systems and how to collect and analyse relevant data
  • A desire to work as part of a team
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel


The salary for this role is £23,804.89per annum.

  Here in Scotland, based at our site in Tranent, East Lothian, we offer a complete array of Safety Assessment services from complete IND-enabling programs to stand-alone preclinical studies, our preclinical CRO services provide a full range of in vivo and in vitro testing evaluations and regulatory support for the safety assessment of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and animal health products as well as chemicalsagrochemicals, and biocides. Our scientific and regulatory staff develop and execute individual preclinical studies or customized programs to ensure that drug efficacy and safety assessments are conducted in the most efficient manner.
