In conjunction with the European Market Access Lead, this role provides strategic market access leadership designed to build strong relationships and effective collaboration. In doing so, this role will help to shape key strategic decisions, including tendering and direct purchase strategies, Clinical Development and Integrated Evidence Generation Plans, to ensure that strategic plans fully meet the needs of market access. This role will take the lead in development of value propositions and deliver timely, optimal reimbursement in a highly challenging environment across diverse regions with complex and differing needs. Additionally, this role will be based in Germany

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Be responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of the payer value generation and tender and/or direct purchase strategies, working in concert with marketing, government/policy and medical affairs experts dependent on solution to create holistic strategies.
  • Map external payer and funder environment and communicate to internal stakeholders and senior management relevant information regarding the current and future reimbursement landscape of key markets.
  • Responsible for evaluating threats and opportunities in key markets rising out of legislation, policies and regulation from WHO, MOH/government and/or private payers as well as competitive market access moves that can impact access of Novavax' products and pipeline and proactively develop strategies and plans to address the evolving reimbursement environment.
  • Maintain awareness of the reimbursement landscape and the political environment to ensure optimal development of recommendations and strategies
  • Deliver evidence planning to expand reimbursement to adjacent patient segments and new markets.
  • Guide core teams to ensure decisions to generate clinical and Real-World Evidence are taken early enough to support reimbursement and market adoption.
  • Be responsible for integrating pricing, payer research, health economic and epidemiology information to develop the optimal value strategy.
  • Champion real-world evidence generation and peer reviewed publication strategy to support and enhance clinical data.
  • Support Areas/Affiliates in addressing market access, price and reimbursement challenges.
  • Take budgetary responsibility for defining and managing the market access discretionary budgets, ensuring that spending is managed effectively throughout the year and to plan.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Requires Bachelor’s degree
  • A Masters’ Degree in a relevant discipling is preferred (e.g. Ph.D., Pharm D, MD, or M.Sc. in Epidemiology, Health Economics, Public Health or Health Policy).
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry (global, regional or operating company level) with a focus in Epidemiology, Health Economics, Payer Access is required.
  • Recent experience working in the vaccine industry is mandatory.
  • An outstanding and significant network within the German Vaccines Market Access environment
  • Existing network to relevant institutions in Germany (for example, head organization of statutory health insurance, Leading health insurance coverage institutions and statutory health insurance institutions)
  • Understanding and/or experience of the reimbursement environment for Germany is required.
  • Deep understanding of Health Economics, meta-analyses, retrospective and prospective data generation activities, clinical trial methodologies, relative effectiveness and all other ingredients of an optimal value proposition and professional HTA or price & reimbursement submissions are required.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to successfully work across functional and geographic boundaries, preferably across multiple countries/market types/access models, is required.
  • Deep appreciation of science and ability to translate scientific information into strategy is required.
  • An ability to manage multiple demands and priorities on time, influence without authority, gain alignment and drive decision making is required.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with a strong track record of producing results in a matrix-based environment are required.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to think strategically is required.
