THE POSITION

Then seize the opportunity to join our team of highly motivated data scientists in our newly established, global TMCP Data Science function and apply as a Principal Scientist Clinical Bioinformatics.

You will also have the exciting prospect of acting as a Data Science Lead (DSL) in clinical development project teams to fulfill our vision of turning data into knowledge. As DSL you will have the chance to shape the data science strategy of drug development projects already prior to first-in-man clinical trials ranging up to regulatory submission and beyond.

We are offering an exciting opportunity in our global Translational Medicine & Clinical Pharmacology (TMCP) department located in Biberach an der Riss ( xplorebiberach.com ), our biggest R&D site, or at our headquarters in Ingelheim.

Tasks & responsibilities


  • As a Principal Scientist in Data Science for precision psychiatry projects, you will be responsible for the data science strategy and identify opportunities where respective data science approaches can further advance the understanding of patient selection, pharmacological activity, efficacy and safety.
  • As a Data Science Lead (DSL) you will work in close alignment with other development team members and data science subject matter experts and are responsible for:
    • advising clinical development teams on opportunities and limitations of Data Science approaches (e.g. from bioinformatics, systems pharmacology, pharmacometrics or descriptive analytics).
    • developing and aligning the TMCP data and data analysis strategy as part of the clinical development programs and ensuring their respective implementation and execution.
    • clinical development projects up to submission representing our data science functions at regulatory meetings.
  • You will continuously evaluate or develop, implement, and promote innovative data science approaches to be applied in our clinical development programs.
  • Moreover, you will be responsible for the advanced and integrative analysis, visualization and interpretation of complex large-scale data sets like fMRI, digitized behavioral tasks, EEG, MEG, speech or omics data
  • You will ensure the timely delivery of respective data analysis documents (e.g., dataset specification, analysis plans, and reports) and documents where you are co-author (e.g., clinical development plans).
  • With your expertise as a data scientist, you will provide consultancy and expert advice to other scientists and stakeholders within our group, department and beyond.
  • You will coordinate and/or contribute to internal and external initiatives / working groups (e.g., public partnership programs including IHI calls as well as academic research collaborations), you will organize and contribute to cooperation with external organizations and establish/maintain contacts in the field of data sciences.



Requirements


We expect a strong team player, who is able to successfully act in a global and remote context. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interact internally as well as externally and the ability to pro-actively identify issues and provide solutions are a pre-requisite.
  • Ph.D. or master’s degree in data science with a focus on life sciences, neuroscience, psychiatry or related field
  • Some years of experience in Data Science in the pharmaceutical industry, CROs, or regulatory agencies required
  • Some years of working experience in clinical development teams required for a Principal position
  • Broad expertise in the advanced analysis of complex data relevant in the area of neuroscience and precision psychiatry like EEG, fMRI, MEG, behavioral tasks, or speech and their interpretation, e.g. using R or python on a high performance cluster or cloud environment
  • Experience with omics data would be a plus
  • Solid knowledge in applying data science approaches to drug development


TMCP Data Science

Within TMCP Data Science we are focusing on improving disease, biomarker and drug understanding through modern data science approaches, including bioinformatics, systems pharmacology, pharmacometrics, data enablement and data engineering.
To implement our vision of turning data into knowledge, we utilize our scientific expertise in key data science approaches and act as Data Science Leads in development project teams. In this role you will be a main contact for data science related questions supported by the whole TMCP Data Science group. You will join the clinical development team approximately two years before first-in-man clinical trials and support projects until successful regulatory approval and beyond.

Within TMCP Data Sciences you will have the opportunity to actively contribute or lead internal and external working groups/initiatives focusing on e.g. disease strategies, innovative methods, standardization and processes. Thus, you will have a major impact on our future clinical drug development programs, thereby actively contributing to the availability of breakthrough therapies that will increase human health.
