OUR COMPANY

At Boehringer Ingelheim we develop breakthrough therapies and innovative healthcare solutions in areas of unmet medical need for both humans and animals. As a family owned company, we focus on long-term performance. We believe that, if we have talented and ambitious people who are passionate about innovation, there is no limit to what we can achieve; after all, we started with just 28 people. Now, we are powered by 50,000 employees globally who nurture a diverse, collaborative and inclusive culture.

THE POSITION

We are looking for a talented postdoctoral researcher who shares our ambition to discover innovative therapeutic strategies for treatment of obesity. We aim for in depth investigation of critical neuronal and molecular mechanisms that could enhance and prolong the efficacy of anorexigenic therapeutics. In this context, you will establish and utilize state of the art technologies such as patch clamp and functional imaging in acute brain slices to explore the response of neuronal networks to pharmacological modulation.

This position is limited for two years.

Note: To make it easier to find our job advertisements, we use the usual designation "Post Doc". Of course, this advertisement is not only addressed to applicants directly after completing their doctorate, but to all qualified candidates.

  • You will be responsible for establishing methods for AAV-mediated transduction of hypothalamic nuclei in mice, labeling of specific neuron populations and monitoring of plastic network changes upon pharmacological treatment.
  • You will set up and execute experiments to study neuronal properties in hunger/satiety circuits using electrophysiology, i.e. cell-attached or whole cell patch clamp, and functional imaging in acute brain slices.
  • In your new role, you will investigate cellular and molecular changes in hypothalamic circuits upon anti-obesity treatments.
  • Furthermore, you will explore markers for neuronal and network response to predict sustained suppression of food intake.
  • As a Post Doc in Cardiometabolic Diseases Research you will present your results at internal and external meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • You will work in a stimulating environment, in collaboration with experts in the field and be part of interdisciplinary teams involving cellular and molecular biologist, electrophysiologists and pharmacologists.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in biology, neuroscience or related fields with sound knowledge in neuroscience
  • Extensive hands-on experience in whole cell patch clamp and electrophysiology recordings in acute brain slices; background in recording hypothalamic neurons is advantageous
