The Opportunity

We have an opportunity available for a Scientist to join the Formulation Development team at CSL. The formulation team is positioned within the Biopharmaceutical Product Development (BPD) group of R&D, which focuses on delivery of new biotherapies to treat serious medical conditions. Based at our site in Melbourne, you will join a global BPD network of over 200 scientists and engineers working across world class facilities in Australia, Germany and U.S.A. who develop and manufacture recombinant protein, vaccine and cell-based gene therapies for pre-clinical and human clinical trials.

You will plan, complete and report on scientific experiments and activities needed for successful development of safe, stable and efficacious biopharmaceutical Drug Products for clinical trials. You will also support the scale-up and transfer of new products and processes to the next stages of development and conduct stability trials. As a skilled experimental scientist you will also ensure records and documents meet business, quality and regulatory requirements. You will also be involved in the continuous improvement of our processes & strategy via the adoption of new, emerging technologies.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Conduct experimental studies and associated laboratory activities involving the formulation, aseptic processing, dispensing/sampling and testing of mostly recombinant protein Drug Products.
  • Document and report experimental studies and activities for all work in accordance with quality and regulatory guidelines and policies.
  • Develop and maintain facilities, laboratories and equipment to required quality standards.
  • Work and collaborate closely with scientists and R&D colleagues across different CSL teams and global sites.
  • Identify and manage the procurement, storage and maintenance of pharmaceutically active materials, chemicals/excipients and equipment.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and bring these to the team for assessment and/or implementation.
  • Regularly participate in technical, operational and organisational discussions and presentations at team and department meetings.


Your Skills and Experience:
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
  • Strong understanding of the theoretical and operational requirements of typical biochemical/chemical R&D laboratory facilities and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience with physicochemical assays and/or formulation and drug product development activities in a pharmaceutical environment, ideally involving recombinant proteins
  • Ability to contribute and work in a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary global team environment, and independently when required.
