Job Overview

As part of a team of skilled Facilities staff, the Facilities Technician’s role involves maintaining the mechanical integrity of the site and overall facilities and performing repairs as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains critical HVAC systems serving life science laboratories.
  • Performs installation, repair, and maintenance of facilities and equipment including but not limited to ceiling tile replacement, air and water filter replacement, lamping, door hardware, flooring, bathroom fixtures, minor wallboard patching/painting, hanging whiteboards, artwork, and shelving.
  • Performs preventive maintenance of major facility equipment including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and critical laboratory equipment.
  • Ensures that routine preventative maintenance is performed according to established schedules.
  • Applies skills to a wide variety of air conditioning, heating and ventilating systems such as boilers, heat pumps, compressors, evaporators, control systems, heaters, and A/C units.
  • Tests, troubleshoots and repairs HVAC equipment and systems requiring the isolation of the malfunction, disassembly of equipment and repair/replacement of electrical and electromechanical equipment.
  • Inspects and tests heating and cooling control valves, pumps, pneumatic controls and VAV boxes.
  • Checks, repairs and/or replaces valves, motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring, fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, pipes and other functional components.
  • Complies with all applicable local, state and national codes.
  • Ability to work overtime and be on-call as needed
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather
  • Must have working knowledge to operate power tools and shop related equipment

Qualifications/Skills

  • Experience in HVAC-R repair
  • CFC refrigerator certification a plus
  • Basic knowledge of facility operations and maintenance
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft application suite knowledge
  • Ability to read schematics, blueprints, technical manuals, engineering drawings, sequences of operations
  • Ability to read, understand and follow safety procedures
  • Experience in a GMP environment
  • Ability to communicate well with internal customers, team members, and external customers/vendor
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondences
  • Ability to listen and respond well to external customers, partners and colleagues at all levels
  • Highly goal and result oriented
  • Prioritizes tasks according to business objectives and can pursue several objectives simultaneously
  • Can work independently with a high degree of self-motivation
  • Knows how to obtain support from different collaborations
  • Tackles problems with enthusiasm and curiosity
  • Treats colleagues at all levels with respect

Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in commercial or industrial facility maintenance activities
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or completion of a trade school program or licensure


The hiring range in Colorado for this position is $26.00/hr - $40.00/hr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, education, skills and experience of the applicant, internal equity and alignment with market data. This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
