Protein Engineer (3D Protein Structures)

Based: Remote  

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Protein Engineers with expertise in 3D Protein Structures to join an impressive start-up Biotech company. This role is fully remote, my client is keen to reach the best talent across Europe. You will work with a diverse team of Machine Learning experts and Bioinformaticians to improve the design and discovery of novel proteins. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand the technical requirements of protein engineering projects and provide solutions using cutting-edge machine learning techniques.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain quantitative models for pathogen-host receptor and pathogen-antibody binding predictions.
  • Develop and apply analysis methods that predict the behaviour of viral surface proteins based on their structure.
  • Frameworks for evaluating the presence or absence of protein structural changes brought on by small sequence differences
  • Write summaries of your study and findings in advance of presenting them in reports and presentations to coworkers and outside colleagues.

Background:

  • A degree in computational biology, structural biology, machine learning, or a related discipline (with a concentration on protein structure); or equivalent professional experience.
  • Vast experience in analysing protein structures using computational methods based on physics, machine learning, or other techniques, notably for docking or related applications.
  • Understanding of how to find structural data on proteins in open databases like PDB. Knowledge of three-dimensional protein structures
  • Linux expertise and a desire to learn about common software management tools, such as git, cloud computing, etc.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively on a range of scientific and technical tasks; exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English (the company's working language); and a background in technology.

 

Bonus:

  • Experience with machine learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, Orange, etc.), particularly their use for denoising cryoEM images or related applications.
  • Knowledge of protein structures in the context of virology, immunology, or cancer.
  • Proficiency in comparative and phylogenetic protein-level sequence analysis.
