In this role, you will be accountable for acting as the primary data liaison between Central Laboratory Services (CLS), Sponsor(s), and CROs. Portfolio Manager must prove to be knowledgeable and experienced in Data Management processes related to clinical trials and to manage a portfolio of clinical studies as Data Manager. In this capacity, Portfolio Manager must prove to be capable to manage with confidence diverse and complex client accounts and projects, must demonstrate ownership and forward thinking while keeping a collaborative attitude and fostering excellent communication within a team environment. Portfolio Manager must show flexibility when appropriate and possess capability to make decisions, must be able to act as consultant, demonstrate integrity and dedication, and ability to deliver outstanding customer service.

In more details, you will...

The Portfolio Manager (Data Management) is expected to manage a portfolio of client studies and in addition to assume special assignments including but not limited to: leading process improvement projects and initiatives with departmental impact.

For the part related to managing a portfolio of studies, the duties and responsibilities are identical to those of all levels of a Senior Data Manager:
  • Responsible for performing all Senior Data Manager functions as described below:
    • Engage client data management during start up.
    • Act as a data liaison between client or CRO (Clinical Data Management) and all other internal departments and business units.
    • Create standard data transfer format(s) in compliance with client requests while adhering to both internal processes and regulatory standards.
    • Provide ongoing client and CRO support (study maintenance).
    • Attend training to increase Data Manager capabilities.
    • Ensure uninterrupted client service.
    • Record data transfer activities and maintains protocol portfolios as required to track workload and productivity.
    • Other duties as assigned

  • Build a relationship with key stakeholders such as BDDs and Alliance Leaders


  • Collaborate with leadership on investments and resources necessary for specific client needs


  • Ensure seamless integration of global data management services


  • Ability to create and motivate a team around project deliverables


  • Establish cross-functional mechanisms to increase communication, accountability, and understanding deliverables globally within CDM department and as well as other Internal departments and business units. Responsible to coordinate communication and action among the CDM team.


  • Act as primary strategic data management representative between assigned Sponsor(s) and/or CRO and Central Labs, as well as serving as a liaison between Clinical Data Management and other internal departments.


  • Accountable for coaching and mentoring team members as necessary and reporting performance on data management duties to the relevant Team Manager.
    • Support effort of team members with regards to meeting customer commitments, understanding deliverables and executable plans.
    • Support training effort of team members in regards to presentation preparedness.
    • Initiate educational sessions with team members and others as needed.
    • Manage day-to-day project-related activities with team members as appropriate.
    • On-boarding of new comers in the account
    • Train Internal CLS team (including Global Study Leads, Global Study Managers, Regional Study Coordinators, Client Coordinator Specialists and Data Analysts) on assigned client specificities and ensure the quality of associated deliverables is achieved


  • Accountable for review and preparedness for client visits, bid-defenses with clients, audits and regulatory compliance inspections.
    • This includes preparing and giving presentations, providing reports, and executive summaries to internal and external stakeholders, as required.
    • This includes supporting team member's preparedness for these client meetings.


  • Accountable for review and recommendations on Non-Standard Service Offerings.


  • Support a culture of continuous improvement, quality, and productivity.
    • Lead or participate actively to Clinical Data Management projects.
    • Identify and report any process gaps and potential solutions.
    • Ensure consistency and implementation of global processes and procedures.
    • Demonstrate integrity.
    • Advocate of process changes globally and share the department's vision.
    • Ensure compliance with Clinical Data Management strategy.
    • Ensure quality at the highest standard.
    • Demonstrate high level knowledge of study designs for the entire portfolio of assigned clients
    • Acts as Data Manager counterpart for Alliance Leaders (if assigned) or Account Executives for all operational related aspects of a clinical study, programs or accounts.
    • Define, report and manage Key Performance Indicators for the assigned clients or programs; communicate actions internally and ensure their implementation


  • Provide operational coverage for Team Manager.


  • Maintain an appropriate level of studies in order to assist or assume primary responsibilities for another Data Manager.


  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Experience Required:
  • Well-polished, inclusive, and engaging communication skills (written and verbal) as well as excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to demonstrate leadership and teamwork skills
  • Strong and effective negotiation skills to facilitate, guide, influence, and produce a unified approach within a global, cross-functional environment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely and professional manner under demanding conditions
  • Demonstrated a high degree of initiative and ability to work collaboratively
  • Experience with database and database terminology


Preferred Experience:
  • LIMs Laboratory Information Management Systems and relational databases
  • Advanced Excel experience
  • Programming experience (e.g. SQL, SAS, etc.)


Minimum Education Required:
  • BS/BA four-year degree/equivalent and 2-year equivalent Data Management experience or 2-year Associate degree/equivalent with 4 years Data Management experience and/or Leadership experience
