Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role you lead a highly motivated and experienced team focusing on the support of our growing retinopathy portfolio.
  • You lead drug discovery projects in close collaborations with other disciplines, amongst others target discovery research, medicinal chemistry, translational medicine and clinical pharmacology.
  • You contribute to the development of new project ideas for the treatment of retinal diseases such as Age-related Macular Degeneration, Geographic Atrophy, Diabetic Retinopathy and Diabetic Macular Ischemia
  • It is your responsibility to advance the projects to the “Start of Development” milestone. This includes target validation, assay development, biological profiling of lead structures and characterization of development candidates, preclinical biomarker concept etc.
  • By leading and participating in collaborations with academia you drive the science.


Requirements

  • PhD in biology, biochemistry or molecular biology / pharmacology, pharmacy, MD or equivalent, with extensive professional expertise in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Leadership experience with expertise in retinal disease
  • Experience with in-vitro / ex-vivo techniques, in particular cell systems and ability to develop / apply new cell-based-, biochemical- and molecular-biology assays
  • Demonstrated track record by publications in scientific journals
  • Excellent oral communication skills in English
