Job Details

Proclinical is currently seeking a Senior Immunologist for an innovative biotech company. This role is on a permanent basis and is located in Cambridge.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ambitious and active approach to establishing and conducting cutting edge cell-based and analytical methods to characterize and develop candidate VAPs
  • Design and execution of in-house animal studies, development, and optimisation of experimental protocols, and generating high quality reports
  • Design and conduct of in vitro experiments for rapid screening of VAP candidates
  • Perform assays for immune profiling of samples (e.g. pseudotype virus neutralisation assays, ELISA, flow cytometry, ELISpot and Luminex/MSD multiplex cytokine/chemokine assays)
  • Contribute to and/or lead research projects and closely collaborate with pre-clinical and clinical team members
  • Support or lead research activities with external collaborators or contract research organizations
  • Ensure high quality standards for delivery and documentation of research data
  • Prepare and review scientific documentation for regulatory submissions
  • Present work to external partners and at scientific conferences
  • Explain to staff members the scientific protocols currently employed in the laboratory
  • Help train new staff and supervise junior members of the team
  • Utilization and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain an up-to-date organized and legible laboratory journal that records all experiments in detail
  • Conducts Quality Control checks as needed
  • Helps write and maintain Lab SOPs
  • Works for prolonged periods with hands extended under a laminar flow cabinet
  • Exercises knowledge of safety concerns when working with human samples
  • Exercises alertness and careful attention to avoid injury to self and others from chemicals and hazardous materials, and disposable glassware used in the laboratory
  • Active approach to organising meetings and presenting data where necessary

Skills and Requirements:

  • Experience in planning, problem analysis, managing and delivering data to a high standard
  • A broad immunology background, with experience in virology
  • Experience with in vitro assays and a strong desire to develop new assays to assess immune responses
  • Experience working with small animal models is desirable
  • Ability to promote an environment that delivers efficient lab testing/verification including version control and optimisation
  • Ability to manage and coordinate the day to day running of experiments and data analysis in multi-partner projects
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, partners, and academic institutions to find solutions to project challenges
  • A desire and dedication to change the world, with the fortitude and commitment to navigate inevitable rocky roads while pioneering methods and ideas to unlock a new era of vaccine creation … one where protection is provided across virus families to prevent pandemic outbreaks when dangerous new strains cross into human.
  • PhD in Life Sciences with focus on immunology or virology with a minimum of two years R&D experience in industry
  • Strong technical and theoretical knowledge of in vitro immuno-assays as well as immunology
  • Ability to design high quality, well controlled, in vitro experiments, and animal studies as well as translational experiments in context of human disease
  • Experience of setting up a new small animal models of disease would be a plus.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure and multitask to reach multiple tight deadlines
  • Ability to assess priorities, working with a minimum of supervision and initiate action, resolving problems where appropriate
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Strong experience in working effectively with a wide range of staff including an ability to build effective working relationships across academia at a minimum and preferably across commercial organisations.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally for meetings, conferences etc.
  • Ability to regularly review own training needs and attend training as necessary
  • Flexibility to work out of hours as required.
