Job Details

CSL Behring is a global leader in developing and delivering high-quality medicines that treat people with rare and serious diseases. Our treatments offer promise to people in more than 100 countries living with conditions in the immunology, hematology, cardiovascular and metabolic, respiratory, and transplant therapeutic areas.

We are hiring a Senior Scientist, Translational Bioinformatics to join our Research team based in Bern, Switzerland.

In this newly created position, you will provide scientific and technical expertise to help answer biomedical questions at the pre-clinical and clinical stages of drug development, using quantitative approaches and advanced bioinformatics. You will contribute to CSL's R&D capabilities in Translational Bioinformatics, aiming to gain biological insights from multi-omics data, generated in-house and also obtained from external public and commercial databases. These analyses will help to answer key questions in CSL's drug development pipeline, such as target discovery and validation, understanding of the mechanism of action, biomarker identification, patient stratification, and asset positioning.

Working closely with other scientists, you will help to set project objectives and define procedures for data generation and analysis, and you will contribute to strategies for the development of our bioinformatics capabilities. You will also work alongside CSL's external partners and collaborators.

We are now opening this position and looking for the next talent to join our team of passionate scientists.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Translational Bioinformatics you will:
  • Provide input into the design and analysis of experiments using omics platforms, such as transcriptomics (microarray, RNA-Seq, single-cell RNA-Seq), proteomics (mass spectrometry, flow/mass cytometry), and related assays.
  • Design and execute the analysis of the obtained data.
  • Contribute to the interpretation and reporting of the biological insights derived from these bioinformatics analyses, in collaboration with other scientists.
  • Work with Research and IT data managers to define and implement processes for the proper management of translational data, ensuring compliance with CSL's regulatory requirements.

Your skills and experience
  • PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or closely related discipline, with substantial exposure to biomedicine.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer clusters and cloud computing, using Unix-based tools.
  • Proficiency in Python and R programming, specially concerning data analysis and statistics.
  • Experience in working and communicating with scientists from different disciplines and backgrounds.
  • At least two years of post-doctoral experience, ideally in industry, with activities in several of the following areas:
    • Analysis of high-throughput transcriptomics and/or proteomics data.
    • Analysis of genetic variants in the context of drug development.
    • Use of publicly available databases to help drug projects.
    • Application of network biology and pathway analysis for obtaining biological insights useful for drug development.
    • Stratification of patients from cohorts in clinical studies or trials.
  • Fluency in English
