Omics Data – Machine Learning Engineer

Based: Amsterdam or Zurich

I am collaborating with a very exciting, incredibly well backed, start up, Biotech company with offices in Amsterdam and Zurich. They are looking for a Machine Learning Engineer/Data Scientist to work on my clients ML data framework, developing and deploying ML pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Participate in cutting edge research in statistical modelling and inference of biological problems (including cancer research, genomics, image recognition, computational biology/bioinformatics, and more)
• Work at the intersection of machine learning research, software engineering and multimodal petascale+ data
• Build for significant growth and scaling challenges as we transition from infrastructure as services to research
• Develop my clients ML data framework and internal tools Use and augment a curated data lake-house of mixed biological data.
• Improve the reliability and scalability of our ML framework as it grows
• Engineer robust and reproducible data pipelines that enable collaboration within the team and with external parties
• Enable data driven science discoveries in biology and healthcare
• Develop software and workflows that support a long-term vision for ML research and production

Background

• PhD in computer science, a related technical field, or comparable experience
• Multiple of experience with production infrastructure, automation, and software engineering
• Genomics, NLP, image analysis, or bioinformatics background
• Expertise building and launching large-scale ML frameworks that supports the experimental needs of a research team
• Distributed data processing and analysis tooling, such as Spark, Flink, Beam, etc.
• Knowledge of open-source data lake(house) architectures like delta.io Machine learning and data science tools, such as TensorFlow, pyTorch, and Keras.
• Thorough understanding of machine learning fundamentals, such as cross-validation, hyper-parameter search, model optimization and bias-variance trade off.
• Experience in analysing and troubleshooting data management systems
• Experience building and launching projects in a production software environment, including use of automated testing, version control, and deployment systems
• A systematic problem-solving approach, effective communication skills and a strong desire to own and drive your work

A plus to have

• Experience with (functional) programming languages such as Scala and Haskell
• Experience with cloud computing environments, such as EMR, Databricks, Cloudera, etc.
