Job Details

Head of Data Science and Bioinformatics / Cheminformatics – London – Expanding Biotech

I am currently working with a growing, enthusiastic biotech business that uses machine learning to create the next generation of protein therapies.

A candidate who can define the vision and strategy for data science and bioinformatics in partnership with the leadership team and support the company's activities for the development of biotherapeutic drugs is sought by the organisation. This position plays a critical part in the framework for ML-driven drug development. They are concentrated on analysing the landscape of protein fitness in-depth to construct prediction models of function and developability attributes. They strive to provide medications that are effective, secure, and beneficial to patients' lives.

You will lead and organise their outstanding team of scientists and engineers to complete difficult internal and partner drug discovery programmes, assisting in the development of a future in which AI generates ground-breaking, life-improving biotherapeutics at impressive pace.

The choice of the tests and protein variants to conduct is assisted by the data team. The biotherapeutic discovery process, from target selection through drug discovery to pre-clinical development, has a lot of potential for data science. For the creation of antibody therapies and lead optimization, they are currently concentrating on computational biology/chemistry and machine learning. They use machine learning to extract patterns from personal and public data that the human mind cannot recognise or understand. This enables in-silico evaluation of compounds that have not been empirically tested and significantly increases screening capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Be a leader. Provide technical and scientific guidance to a data science team.
  • Direct your team in developing the vision and strategy for bioinformatics and data science.
  • Guide your team to develop new approaches in predicting protein function and developability and push to improve efficiency of biotherapeutic discovery programmes.
  • Be a mentor and tutor to your team in machine learning, statistics, communication, computational biology, and more.
  • Be proactive in your involvement in conferences and regularly collaborate in business development and fundraising.
  • Improve the platform and contribute to innovation within bioinformatics advances, tools, technologies and standards.

Background

  • PhD in bioinformatics, cheminformatics, computational biology/chemistry or machine learning with an emphasis on protein engineering, structural biology, or immunoinformatics.
  • Specific experience in antibody engineering and optimization.
  • Used computational biology tools and methodologies to resolve multiple complicated biological issues.
  • Excellent communicator with specialists to non-specialists being able to adapt and give presentations to executive teams, partners and at conferences.
  • Maintain high standards for communication data-driven insights in a clear and actionable manner.

Advantageous:

  • Provided coworkers with knowledge and resources needed to contribute to the creation of a data-driven culture.
  • Studied immunological repertoires in either industrial or academic settings.
  • Experience with structural computational biology, such as predicting protein-protein interactions and/or developability.

Benefits
