THE POSITION

We are looking for a Mass Spectrometry Expert to join our Investigative Toxicology Group which focuses on nonclinical safety support of Boehringer Ingelheim’s Research pipeline and mechanistic investigations during all R&D phases.

You will set up LC-MS assays for protein biomarkers in toxicology studies. With your expertise, you will be the key contact to generate, analyze, and interpret proteomics data from toxicology studies.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role, you develop, validate and implement quantitative, fit-for-purpose LC-MS assays for protein biomarkers, also in collaboration with external partners.
  • You are responsible for LC-MS method development for complex projects (identification of safety biomarkers and/or generation of mechanistic understanding of toxicity), interacting with multidisciplinary teams within and outside the department.
  • You plan and coordinate experimental work and execute data processing and reporting required to timely deliver biomarker/proteomics work packages to support toxicological studies within preclinical research and development.
  • You are responsible for documentation and communication including data records, project progress summaries, presentations, and publications.
  • You investigate, critically assess, and implement new, advanced technologies.
  • Furthermore, you are responsible for executing strategic priorities and providing scientific guidance to co-workers and external partners and thus providing impact to the R&D portfolio.


Requirements

  • Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or related discipline with several years of relevant experience for the position; alternatively, master’s degree with long-term professional experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in quantitation of proteins in biological samples with state-of-the-art LC-MS approaches, contemporary software packages, and workflows
  • Significant hands-on experience and deep knowledge in mass spectrometry with multiple platforms, liquid chromatography, and sample preparation strategies of biological samples
  • In-depth knowledge of technology, methodologies, and literature in the field of mass spectrometry-based biomarker analysis
  • Experience in biological interpretation of proteomics data and hypothesis generation
  • Industry expertise with experience in Toxicology or Pharmacology
  • Highly motivated team player with excellent organization- and communication skills
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
