THE POSITION


The successful candidate will have a proven track record in drug discovery in a large pharma company or biotech and have extensive experience one of the following disease areas: fibrotic diseases (NASH/PF-ILD/SSc), metabolic diseases, autoimmune diseases, and cancer immunology.

Through utilizing genetic and genomics data from large human cohorts, you will drive breakthroughs across discovery and development stages. This includes identifying first-in-class new therapeutic concept (NTC), understanding of the mechanism of action (MoA), developing translational biomarkers and designing proof of clinical principal (PoCP) studies.

You have proven experience in implementing novel ideas or innovative research in an industrial organization? You are an expert in applying numerical methodologies to analyze rich genomics data that are increasingly available for large human cohorts? You have extensive experience in characterizing gene function through meta-analyzing multi-dimensional datasets that include the GWAS, QTL, OMICs, and a wide range of knowledgebases?

Tasks & responsibilities


  • As Principal Scientist, you will drive genomic-led target and biomarker identification across BI disease areas using state-of-the-art methodologies and large-scale human genetic and genomics data.
  • You will develop and apply novel ideas to validate target and biomarker accurately and effectively using data from biobanks and clinic cohorts.
  • Moreover, you will strive for accurate characterization of gene functions in context of disease-specific cell types and most suitable disease subtypes.
  • You will derive high-quality therapeutic hypotheses through rigorous analyses and materialize results translation in collaboration with therapeutic areas.
  • Furthermore, you will lead, collaborate, and communicate effectively internally with departments across functions and externally with academic and industrial partners.
  • In addition, you will work in a matrix environment both to support and to lead initiatives. You shape scientific and strategic priorities to accelerate portfolio advancement.



Requirements


  • PhD. in Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Genetic Epidemiology, Computational Biology, Statistics, Computer Science or related fields with several years of professional expertise
  • Several years of post-postgraduate experience in a disease translation related setting in a pharma or biotech environment
  • Proven track record in drug discovery and extensive experience one of the following disease areas: fibrotic diseases (NASH/PF-ILD/SSc), metabolic diseases, autoimmune diseases, and cancer immunology
  • Strong statistic genetics skills demonstrated in successful usecases in disease translation. A track record of excellence in delivering value through human genomics
  • Extensive experience in computing and programming with proven expertise in relevant programming languages (e.g. R, Python)
  • Strong collaborator and presenter experienced in generating impact in matrix environment
  • Demonstrated project management skills in leading cross functional projects and teams
