THE POSITION

Within BI’s Human Pharma BD&L organization, Strategic Partnering (SP) develops the partnering strategy for a given Therapeutic Area (TA) and in line with this strategy, identifies, leads the scientific evaluation, and advances to negotiation, selected external innovation opportunities. The Strategic Partnering CardioMetabolism will select and prioritize these opportunities in accordance with BI’s portfolio needs, financial expectations, and other key terms in an industry-competitive manner, globally and across the entire R&D value chain.

Tasks & Responsibilities

You will be reporting to the Global Head SP CardioMetabolism and Retinal Health. Your main responsibilities will include leading of specific work streams for global licensing activities for CardioMetabolism, ranging from search and evaluation of opportunities, internal approval to enabling business negotiations and deal execution.

  • In your new role, you will be contributing to the creation of specific TA Licensing Strategy, aligned with the overall OneHP TA-strategy and goals, across the value chain.
  • You will lead the development and implementation and execution of an investment thesis for a given TA, from the earliest stage deals through SOD, and beyond to clinical candidates and commercial opportunities.
  • With your questioning and challenging mind set, you distill large data sets to make recommendations about investments in targets, clinical medicines and marketed products in the therapeutic area.
  • You will scout globally for external opportunities in the respective TA.
  • Acting as a Champion and driving opportunities successfully throughout the entire evaluation and negotiation, leading up to deal signature.
  • Moreover, you will define the preferred partnering model in cooperation with T&CM, leading preparations of project review presentations for management, and securing non-binding term sheet (nbTS) endorsement for partnering opportunities.
  • Positioning BI as a partner-of-choice by ensuring a streamlined review process, and by acting as an ambassador of the company for partners across the globe through the implementation of BD&L-led visibility activities.


Requirements

  • Advanced scientific degree (e.g., Ph.D. or MD, or MS with sufficient experience) in life sciences or comparable
  • Long-term experience in the pharmaceutical industry or biotech, with substantial experience in Drug Discovery is a must
  • Demonstrated Research, Development, or related experience in CardioMetabolic diseases is essential
  • Must be conversant in the fundamental scientific concepts in CardioMetabolic diseases, preferentially including Obesity and NASH
  • Experience in business development with a high level of professional credibility
  • Extensive professional network with numerous key individuals within and outside of BI
  • Ability to lead and participate in interdisciplinary teams on both local and international levels
  • Excellent communication, management and organizational skills: ability to prepare technical and business reports and oral presentations and communicate concepts and results both internally and externally
  • Excellent project management- and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to travel, including internationally (up to 25% of time)
