Summary of the Position :

We are seeking a Medical Affairs Country Lead who will report to the Medical Affairs Director, Southern Europe. This position will encompass the Coronavirus and Influenza vaccine programs and any additional future pre-launch products. The candidate will be primarily responsible for developing the scientific strategy and communicating with key external stakeholders in their designated region as a subject matter expert on Novavax vaccines.

The candidate must have excellent collaborative skills to work with several organizations within the company including Commercial, Communications, Regulatory, Market Access, Advocacy, Clinical Development, and Pharmacovigilance. Prior experience in a pharmaceutical/biotechnology environment will be required, as this role will be working on supporting pre- and post-market products in an extremely fast-paced and intense environment.

The position will be remote-based in Portugal or Spain but with an expectation of intermittent travel to the European corporate headquarters in Switzerland (in addition to other travel requirements). International travel is anticipated.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
  • Develop and execute the medical strategy and medical launch plan in the designated region
  • Serve as the point person, with a cross-functional team, to develop content for Advisory Boards including defining the goals, objectives, agenda, and chair selection within the region
  • Field-based scientific expert responsible for building and maintaining appropriate high-level relationships with external advisors, organizations, payers, institutions and thought leaders
  • Facilitate data generation, education, and scientific insights-gathering activities in line with Medical Affairs leadership.
  • Respond to unsolicited medical information requests from healthcare providers and support commercial colleagues through internal scientific training and external customer scientific interactions
  • Serve as a vaccine subject matter expert to various external stakeholders across multiple settings
  • Identify thought leaders, professional groups, organizations, decision-makers, and other key stakeholders in infectious diseases and in the assigned geography
  • Engage in scientific exchange with identified key stakeholders
  • Coordinate with Global Market Access and/or Global Government Affairs to provide education and presentations to appropriate vaccine decision-making bodies in the region
  • Share and discuss evidence-based scientific data with stakeholders in accordance with all relevant regulatory requirements and company guidance
  • Capture and report scientific insights obtained via appropriate scientific interactions with external sources
  • Respond to unsolicited questions and document these requests and responses appropriately
  • Facilitate education on disease state, product, and competitor products to internal stakeholders and external customers as appropriate
  • Facilitate investigator-initiated research initiatives at the direction of Medical Affairs leadership
  • Represent Medical Affairs at scientific meetings and conventions as directed by Medical Affairs leadership

Minimum Requirements :
  • Doctor of Medicine degree (MD, DO, or equivalent), PhD, or PharmD is required
  • 5+ years Medical Affairs experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • Experience in vaccines strongly preferred
  • Experience in marketed product pre-launch strategic planning and post-launch support activities
  • Experience working with public health and public policy making bodies/organizations within the designated region
  • Strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills with ability to build consensus
  • Understanding of health economics, healthcare reimbursement, managed care customers, and distribution channels relevant to the pharmaceutical/biotechnology organization
  • Self-starter who can work effectively within cross-functional teams
  • Ability to effectively present scientific information to diverse audiences
  • Results-oriented work ethic
  • Fluent in English and the local language (Spanish/Portuguese) with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Highly motivated with high professional, personal, and ethical standards
  • Credible reputation with the ability to appropriately represent the company’s products and technology to the medical community
  • Travel up to 40%
