About You

We are seeking a motivated, creative and innovative Senior Scientist Nephrology to join our dynamic team at our research site in Schlieren, Zurich. In this role you will be responsible for initiating and driving internal and collaborative drug discovery projects in the therapeutic area of nephrology. You will be part of a diverse team committed to building a growing portfolio of nephrology assets from early discovery to clinical stages. Our aim is to develop drugs to improve lives of patients affected by acute and chronic kidney disease for which currently there is no adequate treatment.

Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Conception of new projects and project leadership in order to contribute to the CSL Vifor drug discovery portfolio in the areas of acute and chronic kidney disease
  • Combine cell biology and in vivo models expertise with strong project leadership qualities to deliver high quality data-driven packages and enable project decisions
  • Design, interpret and manage pharmacology studies to evaluate efficacy, pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, tolerability and mechanism of action of novel therapeutics
  • Coordinate in vitro and in vivo model development and characterization internally as well as at service providers
  • Perform and supervise interdisciplinary research requiring the application of specialized scientific knowledge and advanced laboratory techniques, in particular primary cellular models and their use with chemical biology and gene editing approaches
  • Provide scientific guidance to lab technicians and scientists developing in vitro and/or in vivo models
  • Providing preclinical nephrology expertise to support in-licensing opportunities
  • Preparing reports and presenting progress at internal meetings, international congresses, and publishing in high-ranking scientific journals
  • Keep up with relevant scientific literature and share highlights with the team
  • Maintaining good documentation practices
  • Effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders

What we require from you:

  • PhD and/or MD degree with postdoctoral experience in life sciences
  • A proven track record of delivering high impact results in nephrology and/or renal disease within academic or pharmaceutical industry settings
  • Understanding of drug discovery, applied pharmacology, relevant statistical methods, and drug development
  • Experience in design and execution of well-controlled in vivo pharmacology studies to demonstrate proof-of-concept in preclinical models
  • Strong "hands-on" experience in the use of a wide range of cellular, biochemical and genome editing methods and technologies to unravel complex molecular signaling pathways
  • Strong "hands-on" experience in cultivation and analysis of complex renal cell-based assays, e.g. kidney organoids, primary 2D/3D endothelial or epithelial cell systems
  • Experience in interpretation and building of hypothesis based on human multi-omics data including single cell RNAseq datasets
  • Excellent organizational skills with the proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Innovative, entrepreneurial attitude with "hands-on" mentality and a solution-oriented work style
  • A proven scientific impact on innovation through a solid publication track record and strong scientific network with academic experts
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills in English language, German is an advantage
