The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Project Manager R&D to join our team on a 12 month fixed-term contract. In this position, you will be responsible for the initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and closure of projects at the project level. You will work autonomously in leading multiple early stage/discovery projects within a program or portfolio. You will provide direct input and lead the development of project strategy and to take a leadership role on the Research Project Team (RPT) and be an active participant at associated team meetings. You will be responsible for securing the appropriate functional resources for the project team(s) and maintaining well-functioning project team(s).

Reporting into the Director, Research Project Management, you will:
  • Provide direct input and lead the development of the project strategy.
  • Be responsible for in the integration of services, technologies and capabilities to ensure delivery of project (where relevant).
  • Manage and/or oversee activities relating to monitoring of competitive landscape, intellectual property surveillance and project information management.
  • Be involved in assisting with commercial/licensing/partnering/intellectual property activities related to the project(s) and/or program. The Project Manager will need to ensure contractual terms are adhered to.
  • Be responsible for providing critical inputs into the business planning process. The Project Manager will work with teams and functions to ensure good understanding of key project activities. They will ensure costs are estimated and tracked by all contributing functions so as to support R&D executives in planning and prioritization of resources and projects. Projection and occurrence of costs by functions will be reviewed.
  • Participate and may lead process improvement initiatives designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Project Management Department or the R&D Division.


Your skills and experience
  • An advanced degree (MSc, PhD) in Life Science, Chemistry or Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry (or where relevant a biomedical research organization)
  • 3+ years' experience as a project manager leading cross-functional project teams in a
  • matrixed environment, or relevant research experience
  • In-depth knowledge in the drug discovery, development and manufacturing processes for pharmaceuticals
  • Proficient in the use of Project Management processes and tools (e.g. Microsoft Project)
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, managing and controlling cross functional project budgets, timelines and scope documents
  • Therapeutic knowledge in the areas of hematology, immunology, respiratory, cardiovascular & metabolism or transplant, and/or experience in biopharmaceutical product development and manufacturing of recombinant, plasma derived and/or gene & cell therapy products highly regarded
