Medical Manager/Associate Director, Field Medical Affairs 

Neurology / Rare disease

Responsibilities:

We are looking for someone extraordinary to join a team of agile, out-of-the-box thinkers who are inspired to do more because they know they are a part of something bigger.

The Medical Manager in Japan will be employed directly by our client and serve as a customer facing field medical lead to the medical/scientific community and will be responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining engagements and collaborations with prominent experts and clinicians in assigned geographic areas in Japan.

This entrepreneurial role requires a high level of collaboration across the International team, working with commercial, market access and patient advocacy.    

  • Clinical Trial Support: Ensure the appropriate and timely dissemination of clinical and scientific information regarding both marketed and pipeline compounds in a timely, ethical, and customer-focused manner.
  • Implement clinical and educational strategies in collaboration with colleagues from International Medical Affairs and Clinical Development to support client-sponsored trials and educational initiatives, including investigator-initiated studies.
  • Scientific Expertise: You will develop deep scientific expertise in neurology, neuro-immune and rare diseases. You will be the subject matter expert in this therapeutic area in your region. You will consistently demonstrate that you are a scientifically credible leader and collaborative partner that is highly perceptive, socially intelligent and intuitive.
  • Opinion Leader Engagement: Work to compliantly triage HCPs’ educational and research needs with approved available resources and provide the latest emerging data in response to specific medical inquiries.  This will include, where appropriate, presentations to expert clinicians at index centers and referring centers where expertise on pipeline products is requested.  This position will play an important self-starter role in helping to establish the Medical Affairs presence in Japan and to execute on strategic medical plan and buildout.
  • Compliance:  You will operate in a highly ethical manner and comply with all laws, regulations and policies.   

Further responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring of the competitive environment for advances and trends in the therapeutic areas, products, therapies, treatment management and provide specific feedback to the senior leadership team.
  • Meeting and exceeding KPIs for planned activities.
  • Remaining current with all required customer relationship management systems and tools.
  • Collaborate effectively with all functional areas in order to identify opportunities and needs that can be addressed via the communication of scientific, medical, and health economic information.
  • Network with important external customers, including thought leaders, academic institutions, medical directors, managed care decision makers and large group practices in alignment with applicable legal, compliance and regulatory guidelines.
  • Pair customers’ unmet needs with available internal resources.
  • Close cooperation with medical affairs, in obtaining relevant information of medical tactics and training.
  • Assuring appropriate deployment of field resources and that they are compliant with legal and all regulatory guidelines to ensure medical and scientific balance and accuracy.
  • Participate in regional and national conferences, meetings and other scientific venues as appropriate to support the Medical/Clinical strategy, keep abreast of clinical trends and support and maintain relationships with key investigators and scientific research.
  • Work in conjunction with the medical affairs and clinical development teams, evaluate potential external clinical research collaboration opportunities and facilitate the conduct of external clinical investigator-initiated trails (IITS) and company-sponsored trails.
  • Identify potential new speakers and train on scientific content for sponsored external speaker programs.
  • Understand, effectively communicate and integrate scientific/medical information and commercial value of products to the medical community and key audiences.

Requirements:

  • M.D., PharmD or equivalents, or PhD degree in the life sciences.
  • At least 5 years of Medical Affairs experience in the pharmaceutical industry or other Medical/Clinical affairs role of 3-5 years as a minimum in relevant clinical/scientific experience is strongly preferred.
  • Neurology or immunology experience highly relevant for the role.
  • Rare or complex disease experience preferred.
  • Experience in health systems of Italy is required.
  • Ability to travel up to 60% for territory management, company meetings and national conferences.
  • Demonstrated self-starter with strong entrepreneurial mindset with the ability, or potential, to succeed in smaller organizations.
  • Professional, proactive demeanor.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong demonstration of ability to network required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Local Country Language required.
