The Biomedical Manufacturing Research Program works with biomedical companies to deliver new medical treatments and technologies that benefit millions of people in Australia and overseas, helping them live longer, healthier, and more productive lives.

As the Protein Purification Scientist, you will interact with clients to understand their needs and plan and lead projects that enable the clients to progress their research. You will develop suitable purification schemes and carry out the purification. In addition, you will present written and verbal reports to clients. Your extensive experience in protein purification, including using automated methods, will be the key to your success in this role.

Your duties will include:

  • Liaising with clients to understand their needs and taking full accountability for client satisfaction.
  • Assisting in the planning and preparation of research proposals and carrying out research investigations, requiring originality, creativity and innovation.
  • Carrying out protein purification research including developing novel processes and applying established processes including affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion and other methods.
  • Undertaking experimental and/or observational research activities, often requiring the supervision and/or training of others to ensure experiments are established in accordance with research design, or as required.
  • Attending client meetings as required which may be conducted remotely or involve travelling to the client site.


Location: Melbourne (Clayton), VIC

Salary: AU$102k - AU$111k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • A PhD (or an equivalent combination of qualifications and research experience) in a relevant field such as Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Molecular Biology.
  • Extensive experience in protein purification using chromatographic methods (affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion and other methods)
  • Good knowledge of Cytiva Pure chromatography machines and Unicorn software, including experience in writing programs and in maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated track record of working collaboratively within a team to achieve results.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a sound history of authorship of scientific papers or technical reports.
  • A valid driver's licence and to be willing and able to travel locally and interstate as required.

Eligibility

Applications for this position are open to Australian/New Zealand Citizens; Australian Permanent Residents or Australian Temporary Residents, currently residing in Australia with a valid working visa to cover the length of the specified term without the requirement of visa sponsorship from CSIRO.
