The MHRA is transforming. Through enabling innovation, making the right judgements of the benefits and risks of medical products and forging the right partnerships in the UK and internationally, it aims to deliver world class regulation and improved outcomes for UK patients.

We have an exciting opportunity in our Healthcare Quality and Access group for Deputy Director, Authorisation Lifecycle. The Authorisation Lifecycle (AL) function is central to successful operation of the rest of the HQA group. It includes data assurance and quality, high-volume certification work and coordination and support to the frontline functions. It also includes some specialist teams who work  across the product lifecycle covering eCigarettes, patient information, medical products advertising and resolving classifications on borderline products.

Reporting to our Chief Healthcare Quality and Access Officer, the successful candidate will transform the work of the function to maximise outcome and impact, whilst ensuring collaboration across the function and realising efficiencies through centralisation and automation.

The function includes over 60 people who you will lead through changes in ways of working to establish AL as an engaged and high performing team. Delivering strategic leadership as part of the Agency’s transformation, you will develop and manage the six teams that will deliver the function’s objectives across: data assurance and quality, certification and borderline work, advertising, labelling and patient information. You will also develop effective partnerships with leaders of teams using Authorisation Lifecycle services, ensuring smooth end to end delivery.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished operational leader with experience of operational process transformation to optimise business performance. You will have sufficient scientific, technical and regulatory knowledge to be successful in the role. You will already be an established senior leader, strategic, inspiring and passionate, able to lead, manage and develop staff in a way that ensures their engagement with the aims and long-term vision of the MHRA. You will have a demonstrable commitment to, and demonstrable experience of, delivering change and improvement.

Excellent communication and influencing skills, along with the ability to work with stakeholders at the highest level internally, externally and internationally will be crucial to your success. You will be a decisive and effective decision maker and have a well developed and evidenced collaborative approach to successful delivery.
