Job Details

The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a qualified and experienced Research Scientist to join our team at Bio21 Research. You will be within the Cellular Biochemistry group and part of the Biochemistry Department of CSL Research. Your role will involve the establishment, optimisation and application of bioassays that explore the mechanism of action of novel proteins and facilitate the screening of therapeutic candidates.

The Role
  • Design, develop and perform multiple in vitro , biological, and biochemical assays.
  • Investigate the mechanism of action of novel therapeutic molecules and their targets.
  • Use tools and knowledge in molecular biology and cell biology to identify key signalling pathways and gene expression responses for assay design
  • Develop, validate, and standardise analytical methods.
  • Prepare experimental protocols, scientific reports and SOPs
  • Present scientific data at departmental level, project team level meetings and externally at conferences and scientific workshops
  • Perform data analysis using routine spreadsheet, graphing platforms, statistical software, and scientific software tools (e.g., Prism,, FloJo, R, Snapgene)


Your skills and experience
  • PhD in cellular biochemistry, molecular biology or cell biology.
  • Research experience in relevant scientific discipline in industry or academia.
  • Prior cell culture experience is important
  • 3+ years of experience in cellular and biochemical techniques for assessing leukocyte function in vitro
  • 3+ years of experience in design, optimisation and performing cell-based bioassays (e.g., luciferase reporter assays, calcium signalling assays) of discovery phase biopharmaceuticals.
  • Experience in cell culture and aseptic technique
  • Experience in flow cytometry
  • Experience in plasmid design
  • Experience in assay development and validation
  • Proficiency in Flow Cytometry Analysis programs (e.g., FlowJo), molecular biology tools (e.g., DNAstar, Snapgene) and statistical programs (e.g., Prism or R)
