Job Summary

We are seeking a SeniorDirector,Engineering Business Partnerfor ourDiscovery & Safety Assessmentbusiness units. This individual is responsible for supporting Business unit partners with Global Engineering capital functions (Strategic planning, conceptual design, construction project management, design engineering, and cost estimating) to maximize the functionality and utilization of the company’s physical assets while minimizing the company’s risk and ensuring compliance with all relevant governmental regulations both in the U.S. and abroad.

The following are the responsibilities related to theEngineering Business Partnerposition:

Capital Planning & Project Portfolio Management
  • Partner with Business unit to plan Strategic Capital and Facilities Planning, develop site Master Plans aligned with business needs, produce long range capital plans, and supporting plans (e.g., asset end-of-life, business continuity, sustainability)
  • Partner with Business unit management to develop and maintain a dynamic capital project portfolio based on site Master plans.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on the justification, evaluation and approval of capital projects.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective project development, design and management, and compliance with governmental regulations.
  • Utilize business, engineering, and external project management resources to execute capital projects within consistent global guidelines established by the Global Engineering group
  • Manage the availability of internal and external Project Management resources to support execution of capital construction projects
  • Proactively manage design and construction project issues and escalations in partnership with project and business leaders


Design Engineering
  • Utilize engineering design standards in the design & construction of office, lab, animal and manufacturing facilities
  • Direct internal and external design engineering resources to assure that projects meet business partner requirements for current and planned facility needs


Financial Management
  • Utilize sound financial capital estimating practices that provide budget, forecast, and variance management consistent with financial policy at the project and portfolio level
  • Report project financials monthly or as required by the business


Contract Management
  • Utilize Procurement strategies supporting capital projects that optimize cost and risk
  • Participate in the negotiation of contracts with outside contractors supporting design and construction services. Ensure final sign-off of work.
  • Manage supplier relationships to assure ongoing quality, timeliness, and cost are in line with business expectations
  • Monitor contractor compliance with all corporate, local, state, and applicable regulatory standards.


Organization Management
  • Manage internal or external Project Management colleagues & resources
  • Understand organization model to support all internal/external business groups
  • Engage activities of other organizational units (e.g. segments, departments, functions).
  • Ensure adherence to pertinent regulatory requirements and to departmental policies, practices and procedures [SOPs, GLP/GMP, safety procedures and biosafety protocols].
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.


Job Qualifications

The following are the qualifications related to the Engineering Business Partnerposition:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in engineering discipline (electrical, mechanical, civil) or related discipline.
  • Experience: Ten or more years related experience in a role with responsibility for capital project portfolios, preferably in a biotech/life sciences environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Other: Extensive Finance, Procurement and EHS interface.

  Here in Scotland, based at our site in Tranent, East Lothian, we offer a complete array of Safety Assessment services from complete IND-enabling programs to stand-alone preclinical studies, our preclinical CRO services provide a full range of in vivo and in vitro testing evaluations and regulatory support for the safety assessment of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and animal health products as well as chemicalsagrochemicals, and biocides. Our scientific and regulatory staff develop and execute individual preclinical studies or customized programs to ensure that drug efficacy and safety assessments are conducted in the most efficient manner.
