Senior Medical Writer

6 month contract

£50-60 per hour - IR35 scope TBC

Flexible on commitment - can be between 3-5 days per week

Home based role - however you must be in the UK to be considered

Description

We are looking for a senior medical writer to join our client's Value Communication Centre of Excellence. They will act as a lead writer and mentor junior members of the team. They should have a scientific background, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and at least 3 years of experience in market access medical writing. Work will be varied, including dossier and submission writing, development of slide decks and other visual materials with our creative design team, and research-based projects across a variety of therapeutic areas.


Purpose of the role:

To undertake high-quality writing and research activities in contribution to the timely delivery of project objectives.

Roles and Responsibilities:

General

  • Provide a medical writing resource to the medical communications department, acting as lead writer, responsible for overall QC and copy development
  • Undertake be-spoke research and data collection as required
  • Communicate with line manager and appropriate project lead in a transparent and reliable manner (e.g. courtesy copy (cc) on all client correspondence)
  • Work with in-house technical teams (e.g. health economists, designers), as well as external associates, to achieve project objectives
  • Telephone, email and in-person liaison with co-authors, colleagues and clients
  • Conform to house styles and processes (including CMAP, timekeeping)
  • Attend work in a timely and dependable manner

Project delivery

  • Meet project deadlines in a timely manner
  • Contribute to the intellectual design, planning and organisation of projects
  • Primary point-of-contact for clients
  • Undertake or contribute to project management duties such as
    • Invoice generation
    • Project planning

Accountabilities

  • Timely delivery of project objectives, including document drafts
  • Quality of research and written deliverables
  • Contribution to efficient organisation and planning of projects

Training & development

  • Supervise in-house training of medical writers (primarily through editing of written material)

Line management (where opportunities exist)

  • Identifying and addressing any personal or professional issues people may have, referring these to senior management where appropriate
  • Responsibility for conducting annual staff appraisals and reporting outcomes to senior management; planning, implementation and monitoring career progression plans as required
  • Management of work absences and holiday approvals of line reports

Requirements of the role:

Qualifications:

  • PhD

Experience:

  • At least 2 years' experience as a Medical Writer

Skills:

  • Confidence in the design, management and delivery of complex writing projects to clients in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry
  • Proof-reading and editing of written material (own and others)
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Highly skilled with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and EndNote and competent user of Excel
  • Skilled at basic research and literature reviews
  • Proven experience in the preparation of value dossiers and HTAs is preferable
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Satisfaction of clients, relevant project lead and line manager
  • Reduced level of supervision required
  • Ability to effectively balance multiple projects
