At our Labcorp site in Huntingdon Cambridgeshire, we are searching for an exceptional and experienced people manager and scientist for our Clinical Pathology department.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day management of the Clinical Pathology team who undertake routine analysis and support other laboratory related tasks, ensuring integrity and quality levels are maintained.

They must regularly review allocation of resources and offer suggestions for improvement, considering skills within the laboratory team in line with daily requirements.

The role has line management responsibility and the post holder is responsible for supporting, mentoring and developing all those in their team . To drive change, to improve performance quality and to motivate others.

Summary of main responsibilities:

  • Schedule and coordinate proactively the daily activities of the group and liaise with other sections and departments when required.
  • Responsible for supporting, mentoring and developing their team .
  • Undertake staff performance reviews and regular 121s.
  • Organise necessary resources for conducting all relevant study or non-study related tasks.
  • Ensure the appropriate communications within the group, particularly for dissemination of information (e.g. study progress, facility procedures, quality, health and safety, business updates, and any other departmental or company communications).
  • Review study protocols and provide constructive feedback when applicable.
  • Involvement in validation of instruments and assays.
  • Plan, organise, and participate in meetings.
  • Identify and engage in department process improvements.
  • Ensure that the team perform to GLP, GCP and data integrity standards.
  • Provide constructive responses to reports and questions from Study Direction, QA, Environmental Health & Safety, clients or regulatory agencies in a timely manner and performs corrective actions when needed.
  • Responsible for the safety and welfare of staff and supports/enforces Environmental Health and Safety Policies.
  • Involved in troubleshooting and quality issue management e.g. Veeva and audit findings.
  • May cooperate in global working groups.
  • Takes responsibility for further areas of supervision e.g. stock control, housekeeping.
  • Provides support, training and guidance for less experienced staff.

Education/Qualifications:
  • Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
Experience:
  • Proven experience in a clinical pathology setting or similar laboratory setting.
  • Experience using various related instrumentation.
  • Previous experience of direct line management is preferred, as the role will involve direct supervision of laboratory personnel on a daily basis.
  • The post holder should be able to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Have the ability to get things done by influencing others (both internal and external).
  • An understanding of health and safety policies, company policies and procedures, and a strong understanding of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
  • Above all, a team player that works well under pressure and can motivate others.
