Job Details


The Pathologist has primary responsibility for reporting and interpreting pathology data from all types of toxicity studies in Labcorp Drug Development.

The individual has a responsibility to conduct all work in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, and specifically those regulations (GLP) specified in the study plans, protocols, or work agreements governing the work in which they are involved.
  • Necropsy : To supervise necropsies, as required, to ensure proper dissection description, sampling and preservation of tissues in accordance with the protocol, and advise on the description and recording of gross abnormalities.
  • Histopathology: Perform the microscopic evaluation and interpretation of tissue sections from animals exposed to test materials and correlate these findings with necropsy, organ weight and clinical pathology findings under the direct supervision of a senior or principal pathologist.
  • Reports: to evaluate, report and interpret necropsy and histopathology data under the general guidance of a senior or principal pathologist. Communicate the significance of pathologic findings to study directors, clients and other individuals under the direct supervision of a senior or principal pathologist.
  • Interaction : Maintain working relationships with internal and external clients in order to ensure client satisfaction with the Pathology department deliverables. Liaise with pathologists, study directors, report production personnel.
  • Training : to attend courses and meetings and undertake any required formal training to improve their scientific capabilities. Maintain a broad and up to date level of scientific awareness in all aspects of toxicology.
Education/Qualifications:
  • Veterinary degree or equivalent
  • Post DVM/VMD education in veterinary pathology and extensive experience in toxicologic pathology
Experience:
  • Pathology certification and experience in toxicologic pathology desirable; or at least 1-5 years' experience in toxicologic pathology.
  • Ability to evaluate tissue sections from animals, including the interpretation of histomorphologic findings for each tissue of every animal, as well as selected special stains and procedures.
  • Ability to formulate pathology tables by direct entry of all histomorphologic findings into a computerized data collection system.
  • Ability to conduct necropsies and recognize, describe and interpret findings at necropsy.
  • Ability to provide scientific guidance and feedback to histology technicians to correct artifacts and prevent reoccurrence of technical problems, and to ensure accuracy and compliance with protocols, SOP's and client expectations of quality histotechnology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills.
