The Opportunity

The M2U Utilities Department at CSL Behring is currently recruiting for 4 x Shift Support Engineers to join our dynamic team at our Broadmeadows site. The primary role of the Utilities Engineering Department is to provide a reliable source of Utilities [available and cGMP quality compliant] to the Manufacturing Operations.

In support of this, we are recruiting Shift Support Engineers to work on a 12hr rotating shift roster in the 24/7 Utilities Control Room under the guidance of the Shift Engineer. This role provides professional engineering services, including plant operation, performance monitoring, problem solving and breakdown repair activities on the relevant Utilities systems [HVAC, pure water systems, pure steam, bulk reagents, gases and mechanical services].

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Process Engineer Utilities, your responsibilities will include:
  • Conduct operational activities as directed by the Shift Engineer and/or Senior Process Engineer
  • Monitor plant operation and functions, and apply rapid and correct response to abnormal conditions
  • Conduct routine field inspections of the plant to achieve reliable and compliant supply of Utilities
  • Communicate with production and materials management staff about process interface matters and production demands on the service plant.
  • Advise production staff and the Senior Process Engineer, and/or other department officers where serious disruptions are likely to occur to production runs due to process difficulties
  • Maintain an awareness of operating trends, plant performance and difficulties encountered within the plant and report significant problems
  • Undertake fault finding, problem analysis and corrective action by coordinating the relevant
  • Assist with shutdown and start-up activities for Service plants


To be successful
  • Bachelors' degree in Engineering [Mechanical or Chemical] [Recognised by Engineers Australia as Professional Engineer qualification]
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or allied industry (food, chemical etc).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance and/or operation of Water Purification Systems, HVAC or Mechanical Services
  • Experience with Siemens PCS7, plant diagnostics and reliability engineering will be highly regarded as will knowledge of effective use of a Computerised Maintenance Management System
  • Flexibility to work on a 12hr shift roster
  • Exceptional analytical, organisational and communication skills are essential
  • A strong aptitude for hands on operation and maintenance activities, capable of being out there walking the factory floor and working with operational and maintenance staff to address issues as they arise
