Summary of the Position:

We are looking for a Senior Research Nurse to join our Clinic department in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. You will provide oversight of Emergency Drugs and Equipment, working alongside the Medical Director to ensure compliance with MHRA Phase 1 Accreditation Requirements; this includes providing Advanced Life Support (ALS), Immediate Life Support (ILS) training and regular scenario training.

You will also assist the Supervisor Team and other clinical team members (i.e., Training Officer, Quality Control Officer) to ensure study deliverables are met and maintained to the highest standard .

Key Accountabilities:
  • Manage emergency drugs and equipment.
  • Manage MHRA Phase I Accreditation documentation and checks, e.g., Nurse Call Alarm, ALS/ILS Tracker.
  • Oversee and review the training of the clinic team with annual ILS training and attendance at regular training sessions in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Support with maintaining SOPs associated with the MHRA Phase I Accreditation.
  • Support the Supervisor Team with overseeing the day to day running of the Clinical Pharmacology Unit.
  • Maintain the health and safety of volunteers and assess, manage and report on the occurrence of adverse events to a Research Physician.
  • Undertake basic observation of volunteers in terms of their vital signs and perform ECG's and other routine tests, e.g., Spirometry, as per protocol requirements.
  • Undertake the collection of urine and other biological samples such as blood samples, etc., from volunteers as per protocol requirements and ensure that the biological samples are disposed of correctly.
  • Support the Sample Coordinator with the handling and processing of biological samples in the Sample Preparation Room.
  • Keep up to date with any changes in GCP or current working practices and ensure training records are kept up to date.
  • Enter study data on various computerised databases as required and keep up to date with procedure updates and training in the use of these systems.

Minimum Requirements:

Essential:
  • Nursing qualification
  • Knowledge and understanding in the application of basic physiology
  • BLS/ILS qualification
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills with the ability to think logically and solve problems and work through change
  • Proficient people skills: positive interactions with colleagues, volunteers/patients and sponsors
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to continuously produce work of a high-quality standard
  • Competent computer skills
  • English language - fluent, written and spoken, Excellent communication skills, written, aural and oral

Desirable:

  • Nursing Degree
  • Evidence of Leadership/Management training
  • ALS Qualification
  • Experience working in an experimental/investigational environment
  • Experience working with methods, protocols, and source documentation
  • Current knowledge of ICH GCP guidelines
