Associate Scientist - Cell Sciences (NPD) - Recombinants

About the role:

As an Associate Scientist in the Recombinants team, you will be responsible for producing recombinant antibodies through the NPD pipeline and supporting antibody in-licencing activities. This is a 6-month fixed term contract based in Cambridge (UK) on the Biomedical Campus. This is a lab-based role and your daily activities will contribute directly to Abcam’s goals and values.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Analysis of antibody sequences for synthesis, design and ordering of constructs
  • Transfection and expression of recombinant antibodies in mammalian cell systems
  • Quantification of antibodies by Octet and ELISA
  • Support the in-licencing pipeline by culturing hybridoma cell lines, and providing cell lysates and supernatants to partner Abcam sites worldwide
  • Undertake troubleshooting activities for recombinant projects in the Cambridge NPD and replenishment pipelines
  • Contribute to troubleshooting activities in the NPD pipelines of partner Abcam sites worldwide
  • Independently design, execute and analyse process improvement and streamlining experiments. Implement successful results into the process
  • Work with multiple stakeholders (supply chain, logistics, project management) to deliver products to the catalogue and aid with management reporting
  • Work autonomously to record and deliver data to deadlines
  • Support existing Cell Science team in various projects, as required
  • Contribute to projects and initiatives as required within the Antibody Validation and Characterization group and effectively communicate with various stakeholders on the projects
  • Help establish and maintain high quality standards during experimental processes and record keeping. Abide by laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and keep accurate Batch Manufacturing Records (BMRs)
  • Help maintain a safe and efficient working environment in the laboratory, ensure the safety of colleagues & visitors and comply with Health and Safety (H&S) policies

About You:

You will have a PhD in Life sciences, or BSc/MSc and equivalent experience. P ractical experience in hybridoma or recombinant antibody production is essential. Experience of protein purification is desirable. Previous experience working in an industry setting and/or under ISO9001 is preferred.

With excellent attention to detail, you will have good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, work across several projects, and to deadlines. You will be an enthusiastic t eam player; self-motivated, independent and able to facilitate open and constructive communication within the Cell Sciences team and other teams within the company.
