Job Details

  This is a multifaceted and highly interactive external facing role. The post holder will work closely with the commercial and medical colleagues, acting as the point of contact and source of information for external and internal stakeholders.  

 

The Medical Advisor shall also provide proactive input into the business, jointly agreeing, developing and implementing strategic direction for both the key-marketed products and assets within the clinical development programme. 

 

 

Key accountabilities

  • Provide authoritative information and practical support in key external business/ environmental matters to support the cross functional teams across Otsuka
  • Effectively develop relationships with key external experts and organisations (including healthcare professionals, policy makers, payers and patient advocacy groups) 
  • Provide proactive input to the development of business strategy, working closely with cross functional colleagues within Otsuka
  • Act as Medical Final Signatory (where appropriate), providing review and copy approval of all materials, to ensure compliance with the respective Codes of Practice and all other applicable requirements
  • Present scientific data to key Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) / Centers, demonstrating the requisite knowledge and behaviours expected of an expert in the relevant area
  • Respond to Otsuka data / information requests to HCPs as requested; this may include clinical trial discussions, pipeline data and other appropriate forms of scientific engagement
  • Co-ordinate and utilise specialist knowledge in helping formulate and then implement short and long term medical strategy, whilst ensuring effective budget management  
  • Input into company clinical research strategies to support UK market needs, through the Key Evidence Generation process
  • Support Clinical Research Department activities in respect of: o Knowledge/relationships with External Experts in given therapy area
  • Knowledge of UK clinical practice, care pathways, key competitors, etc. and input where required into study allocation process
  • Input into a development of local protocols, study feasibility, site selection, investigator meetings, and clinical study recruitment
  • Support to the development of Investigator Sponsored Studies and where appropriate named patient programmes

                 

Special Competencies/ Other Requirement 

  • A GMC registered medical doctor, GPhC registered pharmacist
  • Disease area expertise desirable but not essential (nephrology, oncology, rheumatology, immunology)
  • Continuous record of career achievement through appropriate career positions
  • Previous industry experience as Final Signatory
  • Commercially astute, with strong organisational and prioritising skills, and the ability to succeed in a highly results-driven environment
  • Willingness to travel, mainly within the UK, and at times within Europe or further afield. For co-promoted products – occasional travel to co-promotion partner company.
