As one of the world's premier Contract Research Organisations, our mission is to help improve lives and improve health. As a Study Scientist withinSpecialty Pathology department at Labcorp Drug Development, you will play an essential part in making this happen.

Based at Alconbury, Cambridgeshire, the main responsibilities include:

  • Project managing new techniques being introduced to the department or research projects, setting up business justifications or project initiation documents and/or protocols where required.
  • Ensuring all work is conducted and conforms to the study plan, Departmental SOP's, GLP and Departmental standards.
  • Assisting and/or performing Immunohistochemical/Cross Reactivity/Electron microscopy techniques within the department and attending post mortems where required for collection of tissues.
  • Carrying out interpretation of results in SPS techniques as required.
  • Liaising with clients as required and communicates effectively and confidently, representing the department at client meetings.
  • Accurately booking in all tissue samples entering the laboratory to ensure the correlation of Covance source codes to the Pathology reports.
  • Helping to maintain accurate logs of tissues stored in freezers and antibodies and associated reagents in fridges/freezers.
  • Sectioning of frozen/cryostat tissues, resin and paraffin embedded tissue for studies.
  • Archiving studies on completion.
  • Ensuring work is conducted in a safe environment and area is clean and tidy.
  • Monitoring the condition of equipment and facilities and take proactive steps to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with GLP.
  • Training and supervising junior staff and assist Head of Department in general smooth running of the laboratory/department as appropriate.

Education/Qualifications:
  • Degree (B.Sc.) or above preferably in biomedical sciences, or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience of and/or knowledge of histology or immunohistochemistry
Experience:
  • Have a practical and theoretical knowledge in a Histopathology environment at this level.
  • Previous practical and theoretical experience in a Immunohistochemistry and/or Tissue Cross Reactivity.
  • Experience with troubleshooting a broad range of technical and scientific issues.
  • Excellent communicator both written and verbal.
  • Project management / supervisory experience.
  • An understanding of Good Laboratory Practise.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge and/or experience of working in a GLP environment desirable.
