At ICON, we have an incredible opportunity for a Laboratory Manager to join the team in our Leopardstown, Dublin 18 location.

The Role:
  • Manage the operations of a large central testing laboratory with responsibility for ensuring all work is carried out in accordance of agreed turnaround time.
  • Monitor and review of proficiency testing, operational and departmental budgets and laboratory quality control data.
  • Responsible for implementation of continuous improvement and operational updates and management of all operational metrics.
  • Manage a team of scientific and technical staff, responsible for performance standards of same in relation to quality, efficiency and productivity.
  • Ensure all internal and external operating procedures are adhered to ensure generation of high quality accurate test results and maintenance of CAP accreditation standards within the laboratory
  • Effectively monitor laboratory operations and guidance of staff when issues arise such as instrument failure, reagent issues, quality control issues, samples integrity concerns, delays in testing and communication of abnormal results.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate responses to quality issues when they occur and liaison with the QA department to determine root cause and implement a corrective and preventative action.
  • Work closely with other operational support departments such as Project Management, IT, Scientific Affairs, Medical Affairs, Global Validations, Global QA, Client services.
  • Work closely with external clients such as instrument and product vendors, clients and customers and external auditors.
  • Manage the recruitment, training and development of staff in the various sections of the laboratory. Perform continuous education of laboratory staff and responsible for evaluation of work performance of technical laboratory staff and employee performance evaluations.
  • Responsibility for implementation and validation of new analysers and laboratory equipment.

What you will need:
  • BSc Degree in Biomedical Science / Medical Science or equivalent essential.
  • Masters Degree with 3-5 years of experience within a clinical laboratory in a senior role required.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in Clinical Biochemistry and / or Hematology. Experience in a large automated blood sciences environment would be desirable.
  • Experience with software for data analysis or other statistical analysis software is desirable.
  • Experience in LIMS operation is considered essential
  • Experience of working within a networked laboratory structure would be an advantage
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • People management experience and skills advantageous.
  • Knowledge of equipment validation and project management experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize projects efficiently.
  • Good organizational skills and experience.
