We have a vacancy in the EMEA region for a Biotech Portfolio Lead to provide consultation, direction, and leadership to all functional leads and employees providing services for assigned portfolio of biotech clients. The role is focused on ensuring operational excellence, consistency, quality, innovation and learning across the portfolio of work.

The Portfolio Lead has overall accountability for delivery for all projects across the Biotech portfolio. Informs functional leads and other key internal stakeholders on operational and strategic priorities, promotes collaboration and creativity. Develops strong relationships which lead to open information exchange, improved project delivery, improved understanding between organizations and additional business opportunities for PPD. Influences PPD's internal operations to minimize potential for risk and maximize client satisfaction. Ensures appropriate resources are allocated in relation to defined outcomes to aid both PPD efficiency and client satisfaction with outcomes. Represents Operations at the Governance level and contributes to the compilation of goals and business plan objectives for the strategic partnership.

Further responsibilities include:
  • Provides strategic direction, leadership and management across multiple divisions and therapeutic areas to ensure a customized biotech delivery model that is most effective for portfolio of biotech clients. Ensuring timely execution of clinical trials and other services.
  • Works globally with other groups to develop new business and to deliver existing business. Responsible for achieving overall financial goals (sales/repeat business, revenue and profitability).
  • Works with leadership in all functional areas on the continuous development/improvement of business processes to support cross functional teams and to ensure that work is uniform, complete and managed appropriately.
  • Develops excellent working relationships with all those PPD colleagues responsible for delivery of projects and services in order to ensure co-ordination across geographies, therapeutic areas and functions and achieve superior delivery of PPD projects and services
  • Provides ongoing consultancy, coaching and feedback to colleagues involved in delivering projects and services on behalf biotech clients to improve the overall understanding of the client and ability to deliver to the expectations of the clients.
  • Develops excellent working relationships with the Business Development leadership team to enable advanced business planning for project delivery and expansion of the portfolio of business
  • Assists in business development activities, representing PPD biotech at bid defenses, ensuring realization of the PPD biotech vision
  • Utilises PPD systems, tools and reports to identify trends in risks and/or issues that present opportunities to leverage PPD Biotech team influence and expertise
  • Collaborates with Biotech leadership team and other senior, therapeutic area, geography and functional lead colleagues to enable oversight of operational performance, resourcing, financial health/strategy, and business planning and execution
  • Develops excellent working relationships with key individuals within client companies for awarding projects and managing project delivery to facilitate program/project awards.
  • Serves as the customers' executive single point of contact, and escalation support person for all operational issues/discussions. Communicates with sponsors regularly to identify potential problem areas and acts quickly to remove the risk/resolve the issue.
  • Leverages relationships and knowledge to enhance the PPD offering to ensure high quality project delivery, client satisfaction and an improved chance of repeat business
  • Leverages relationships to manage any issues that may arise during project delivery that could lead to client dissatisfaction and to manage potential impact on the relationship with PPD.
  • Assists in business development activities to obtain additional contracts by writing and reviewing proposals, making presentations to potential clients and representing the PPD Biotech at appropriate professional meetings and conferences.
  • Fosters client relationships and supervise strategic sell initiatives as related to PPD Biotech


Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or licensed certified health care training or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • A demonstrated track record of success in global clinical development (equivalent to 10 years) and in leading and developing professional staff in a project led environment.
  • Broad business experience including Project Management, Business Development, Finance and Quality and project work covering other functions and disciplines

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong Financial acumen
  • Excellent judgement and decision making skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and influencing at all levels -
  • A strong client and internal relationship builder in a matrixed organization
