Western Blot Associate Scientist

About the role

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Associate Scientist to join the Western Blot (WB) core team in the Antibody validation and characterisation group at Abcam's headquarter in Cambridge, UK. As an Associate Scientist you will support the WB testing pipeline for new monoclonal antibodies, knockout validation of catalogue products and experiments to resolve quality queries, as well as analyzing and reporting on the validation data. Familiarity with Python and JavaScripts and a firm knowledge of Excel Macros is desirable.
This post involves working closely with other members of the quality control teams across the globe. The ideal candidate will have experience in working in an industry setting and/or research experience in the life sciences, be self-motivated, experienced in managing multiple tasks, and working to deadlines.

If you have experience with antibody-based techniques and interpreting scientific data with evidence of driving process improvements, please apply.

About the NPD WB core team at Abcam
We work closely with other new product development (NPD) characterisation and validation teams, in-house manufacturing, Scientific Quality and Support teams, as well as with the marketing team to ensure that our products help customers deliver high quality, publishable data.

Key Responsibilities:

• Be experienced in WB, with firm understanding of principals and the practical methods of ELISA, IP and/or ChIP.
• Take project work, breaking it down to tasks and scheduling those for themselves and others, ensuring delivery on time.
• Continuously explore and implement process improvements. This involves optimising and standardising our protocols and reporting, as well as implementing high throughput testing and automation.
• Help to establish and maintain high quality standards during experimental processes.
• Abide by laboratory Standard Operating Procedures and keep accurate Batch Manufacturing Records.
• Mentor colleagues.
• Present experimental findings across sites.
• Employing Python and JavaScripts or other systems to improve reporting processes and administrative tasks.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be educated to PhD or equivalent (MSc, with relevant professional experience). You can demonstrate how your changes to previous processes have led to increases in the team's performance.

You will have a solid experience of the practical and theoretical aspects of experiments involving antibodies, and particularly WB, but ChIP, IP, ELISA, flow cytometry, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry would be advantageous. You will be confident in interpreting data across several applications and take actions to resolve a problem or to improve product features. A good knowledge about gene editing (e.g. CRISPR Cas9) is an advantage.

You will be an enthusiastic team-player, with excellent communication skills, and able to work independently. You must be able to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines.

If this sounds like you and you'd like to be a part of a fast paced, growing business with the vision to become the most influential company and best-loved brand in life sciences, please apply now!
