As a Technology Manager for our Clinical Operations department, you act as a strategic thought partner to key stakeholders. You are the champion in data-driven decision making throughout the organization and ensure expertise continues to flourish and develop towards future business needs. You are responsible for co-creating a technology vision for different customers in the Clinical Operations group and partnering closely with business leaders and end users to understand needs, build or leverage existing capabilities and identify new technology to enable efficient study decision support.

You will be accountable for identifying business needs, driving integration, implementation and adoption of technology aimed towards more data-driven decision making aiming at more productivity and patient-centricity in clinical trial management.

You have the primary responsibility to oversee and recommend technology components, internal and external, that ensure a seamless user experience and that allow our user community to focus on the key aspects of clinical trial management, become more productive and enable more patient-centricity. The technology landscape you are expected to master and further develop has its foundations in key clinical operations systems such as CTMS and others (e.g. biosample operational data, data provided by external partners such as CROs, electronic medical records, clinical trial data, genomics, etc.). The evidence and insights generated will inform study management teams and support clinical operations decisions.

This position requires an understanding of molecule and disease area strategies, clinical trial data, as well as good knowledge of the clinical trial management systems and very solid technology expertise.

The role can be located either in Basel or in Welwyn.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively engages in ideation and implementation of ideas towards becoming more technology-enabled and data-driven within the function
  • Develops a robust and dynamic roadmap catering to our North Star, i.e. becoming more productive and more patient-centric
  • Shares knowledge and experience within the team, and with appropriate outside stakeholders; specifically technology and best practices to enable and drive F.A.I.R. data principles
  • Has and applies hands-on knowledge in technologies that enable data-driven decision making in clinical operations
  • Typically works on multiple projects at the same time
  • Interacts closely with business, Data Scientists and Data Engineers to understand needs
  • Maps needs to technology solutions and seeks feedback from key customers
  • Helps business and other non-technical audiences understand the impact of technology choices for CO
  • Identifies and engages in vendor assessments
  • Approaches all (internal & external) technology assessments, recommendations, and collaborations with an "Enterprise first!" mindset
  • Seeks synergies and strive for reuse of already existing or planned technology solutions
  • Develops and fosters excellent relationships with technology offices in the company (x-functional and x-divisional)
  • Entertains a network of strategic external vendors to support (enterprise) initiatives both strategically and tactically

Who you are

You have a strong understanding of (early phase) clinical trials, a  broad understanding of drug development combined with a broad therapeutic area knowledge relevant to Roche Pharma's pipeline and internal strategies/tactics and external trends. As the expert on data and analytics strategy and execution, you are crucial in ensuring business stakeholders get the right insights and decision support for their business needs.

This new exciting role requires a mix of capabilities: technology management, innovation scouting, and F.A.I.R. data. You are responsible for providing technology recommendations with minimal guidance / supervision, leveraging their capabilities in the following areas of expertise:
  • Technology management: keeping oversight and driving technological advancements provided by internal functions or externally to best facilitate data-driven decision making in the function.
  • Innovation scouting: be at the forefront of technological advancement and build a bridge between innovations in unrelated fields as they relate to enable clinical operations core business functions.
  • F.A.I.R. data: advocate for and collaboratively with other functions further proactively drive technology that enables the adoption of F.A.I.R data principles throughout the study lifecycle.

  • You hold a MSc or similar educational background in a technology-heavy discipline (e.g. computer science, bioinformatics, (computational) statistics epidemiology, economics or physics).
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience preferably within pharmaceutical or biotech industry and/or management consulting.
  • Extensive experience in technology landscaping and mapping.
  • Strong knowledge in information and knowledge management and data modelling tools and technologies.
  • Experience acting as a strategic thought partner to teams, entrepreneurial mindset, to transform the way we use data and analytics to enable decisions.
  • Experience managing outside vendors.
  • Record of accomplishment of effectively working in a matrix environment with international team members coming from scientific, business and operational backgrounds, using influence without authority.
  • Experience with agile methodologies such as scrum is a plus.
  • Persuasive written and verbal communication skills, easily communicating complex ideas.
