Job Description

Located in Parkville (Australia) and part of the Global R&D Technical Development (TD) team, this is a full-time permanent position. The successful candidate will be part of the team that provides the highest level of scientific expertise in immunology and virology to support innovation within this department. As the Director, Head of Virology and Immunology you will be responsible to deliver technical development of seed viruses to Seqirus worldwide and the programs to develop candidate vaccine viruses.

The position requires someone with industry leading expertise in managing large teams of scientists and/or other professional employees to drive Technical Development programs related to development of candidate viruses, yield improvements for vaccine platforms, introduction of new products and/or transfer of technology developed by Technical Development for Influenza and Products of National Significance.

To be successful in this role you will

  • Be an expert in Influenza, virology and/or molecular biology
  • Be the technical expert providing scientific and technical advice
  • Provide direction, innovative solutions and ensure alignment within Global TD (which includes BioProcess Development, Analytical Development and LabOps/Project Management), R&D and Operations.
  • Advise on the development of seasonal and pandemic influenza seed virus for both egg and cell platforms to ensure first to market, market requirements and expansion
  • Have a PhD in a relevant scientific field e.g. Molecular Biology, Virology, Immunology.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in this field including 7+ years' experience at senior manager/executive level or higher in a large pharmaceutical company
  • Have extensive experience managing financial budgets with business acumen to engage and influence internal and external stakeholders.
