Responsbilities:
  • Take on the function of the animal welfare officer according to Section 10 of the Animal Welfare Act They advise and train the permit holder in accordance with Section 11 of the Animal Welfare Act, the people involved in keeping the animals, study directors, toxicologists, other scientists and operational staff with regard to the welfare of the animals when acquiring, housing and caring for them, as well as with regard to their medical treatment
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, conditions and requirements in the interests of animal welfare
  • Comment on applications for approval of a test project and in this capacity correspond with the responsible authorities In-house
  • Work towards the development and introduction of procedures and means to meet the requirements of Section 7 (1) sentence 2 and Section 7a (2) numbers 2, 4 and 5 of the Animal Protection Act You act as the central point of contact for the district veterinary authority
  • Work with local leadership and the global Culture of Care network, you will develop initiatives to maintain a strong culture of care and transparency in animal research internally
Education/Qualifications:
  • Completed University degree in veterinary medicine
  • Licensed to practice as a veterinarian in Germany Knowledge and skills that are required to carry out the tasks specified in Section 5 (4) TierSchVersV Proof of the required reliability
Experience:
  • 5 years' of experience in laboratory animal science, in the role of an animal welfare officer, a clinical veterinarian or a person responsible for carrying out animal experiments
  • Knowledge of the care and use of non-human primates in research and / or experiments is beneficial. Very good communication skills.
  • Good to very good command of written and spoken English and German
  • High sense of responsibility, initiative, resilience. A doctorate and knowledge of good laboratory practice (GLP) or regulatory requirements in drug development are an advantage.
