Covance by Lapcorp has an excellent opportunity for a Vice President of Operational Strategy and Planning to join our Therapeutic Expertise team.

We are seeking a senior and experienced leader within Global Clinical Development. The successful candidate is expected to leverage that experience to aid a team to grow a portfolio of innovative and profitable business by overseeing the design of effective and differentiated strategies for operational delivery with clients and internal experts.

The Vice President is a leader across all therapeutic areas and is expected to establish and grow best practices to ensure proposal strategies, maximize Covance differentiation, leverage cross functional input across the Covance enterprise, be an effective line and team manager, and engage as a leader and subject matter expert in relevant process improvements and change management activities across the organization.
Education/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Advance degree, PhD and/or MBA preferred
  • 15 or more years of drug development and clinical research experience (pharmaceutical, biotech or CRO), preferably including 6 or more years leading PII-PIV clinical trials in respective Therapeutic Area
  • 5 or more years global leadership experience, ideally in a complex, virtual and matrix environment leading large multi-functional teams
  • Broader level client relationships and business development experience
  • Demonstrated vision, strategy and growth experience
  • Financial acumen (P&L, budget, forecast, resources etc.)


Experience:
Commercial Acumen
  • Has a deep understanding of the industry, market and our clients and presents Covance's medical scientific, and operational capabilities to clients. Leads growth across all Therapeutic Areas; designs and develops innovative, winning trial solutions that result in a growing, profitable portfolio of business in each TA
  • Owns client expectations and satisfaction for proposals; identifies, develops and fosters new and existing strategic relationships at senior operational levels with clients, KOLs, Vendor Partners etc., and guides teams in building long-term strategic client relationships
  • Leads high quality end-to-end business development strategies, including RFI response, proposal development, bid defense preparation and presentations
  • Markets and supports Covance's capability, visibility and position through publications and presentations at conferences, meetings and webinars etc.


Leadership
  • Engages with Covance's leadership to help define, drive and implement innovative and strategic initiatives, including cross business unit and functional integrated opportunities, to grow and expand the Therapeutic Area.
  • As a member of the GCD Leadership Team helps to define and implement the TA vision and strategy; translates this into key initiatives and priorities; develops and delivers against TA operating plans; able to achieve results in a global, virtual and complex environment; tracks and measures progress.
  • Partners with peers ensuring consistency (quality, standards, policies, processes and practices) across TAs, Project Management and Commercial
  • Leads by Example in building and sustaining a scalable organization; creates a forward looking culture of ownership and accountability; delegates for development and growth; identifies and sets up high performers for success; is self-aware and a learner.
  • Effectively leads in a global, complex environment; sets clear expectations; coaches and mentors for success; consistently communicates and connects; fosters a continuous learning environment
  • Manage resource needs across OS&P functions and across TAs.
  • Attracts, selects, on-boards, develops and retains high performing talent; strengthens and deepens talent bench and succession;


Operational Leadership and Financial Acumen
  • Collaborates with delivery functional leaders, FRE and Commercial on resource planning, engagement of subject experts and governance over proposal processes
  • Leads portfolio growth, encompassing consistent quality, of proposal and bid defense preparations
  • Part ownership of the global sales targets, by ensuring winning strategies and effective budgets and financial deal terms are presented to meet customer needs


Subject Matter Expertise
  • Contributes to the TA commercial, operational, medical and scientific leadership and direction, leveraging expertise from other functions as required
  • Senior global contact for both internal staff, clients, KOLs & Vendor partners for matters pertaining to OS&P
  • Ensures TA specific training needs are identified and delivered appropriately
  • Participates in training opportunities to advance knowledge of TA, drug development, GCP etc.
